Chips: 2,370 | | | Suggestion for a 2 Table, 10-12 person tourney? We are thinking of doing a tourney this weekend instead of our normal cash game, because we have so many people that can play this week.
My table only holds max 8 people, so we would like to split a 10-12 person tournament between 2 tables. 5-6 people per table and then combining when there are 8 left.
We would like the game to last about 3 hours or so and would like to use a T5000 starting stack.
What would you guys suggest I use for a blind structure?
Ive read the threads here and on hompokertourney and nothing really struck me as great for this sort of structure.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Edit : Forgot to add that we would like to allow 3 re-buys total. FIrst 3 to bust get a re-buy option, they are then exhausted. |

We intentionally wanted to to last a long time so we stretched it out from 5:30pm until about 11:30pm with 3 or 4 breaks.
For a T5000 structure in about 3 hours I would probably do something like this:
Chips per player:
8x 25 = 200
8x 100 = 800
6x 500 = 3000
1x 1000 = 1000
Blind Levels and times:
25/50 - 30 minutes
50/100 - 30 minutes
100/200 - 30 minutes (color up and break)
300/600 - 20 minutes
600/1200 - 20 minutes
1000/2000 - 20 minutes (color up and break)
2000/4000 - 20 minutes
3000/6000 - 20 minutes
5000/10,000 - until over, if even needed.
I prefer to put the longer rounds in the beginning so that people can find their rhythm. Once the ball is rolling and there are players starting to get knocked out the blind timer can go down a bit since fewer people will see as many hands in a shorter time. |

Be ready to move a player if there is a difference in 2 players. Meaning if you start with Table A with 6 and B with 5 -- B loses one, down to 4, you should move someone from A. Find out where the person who went out was sitting relative to the button -- possibly one behind the button. Go to Table A and when they finish that hand, the button moves on Table A, then take the person who is sitting in that same position (in my example, one behind the button) and they go to Table B. Game on. Hope that makes sense. It's all explained on homepokertourney.com where you've looked already. From my experience, On The Button's blinds suggestion (longer) will meet your needs best. |

It takes a little time to set up, but it makes managing tournaments sooooo much easier. It has a blinds wizard, so you can say how long you want the tourney to last, what stacks to start with, how many breaks, etc... and it will automatically build a structure to match what you want. Might be more than you're after at this point, but it's a thought.
As far as making it more fun, you can always do a $5 bounty on everyone and/or do some fun prizes for high hand of the night, first one out, lowest winning hand etc.. We do this and it's usually pretty fun. We get gag gifts for the winners, or something small. This week we hand mim-bottles of Maker's Mark and one signed 8x10 pic of some Rat Pack impersonaters that we'e playing at the local casino. Cheap and funny...gotta like it. |

Chips: 2,935 | | | Re: Suggestion for a 2 Table, 10-12 person tourney? If your tables are odd numbers you can always add a "dead man hand" that just posts blinds and folds until the first player is eliminated.
Then you can balance the tables with even numbers of players. |

It would've settled all your problems. If you want something thats only gonna last three hours ,I would highly recommend not doing re-buys. That will just pro long your tournament. Besides the faster people bust out, the sooner the cash game starts |

I looked it over again and I realized that a lot of the players have never played a tournament, only cash games. We also have one very very much beginner in the group.
Due to that, I decided to just use HPTs basic T1000 buyin tournament schedule.
Starting stack is:
15 x 5
11 x 25
7 x 100
Blinds go in 20 min intervals, with the following structure :
10 - 20
15 - 30
20 - 40
Color up 5s
25 - 50
50 - 100
75 - 150
Color up 25s
100 - 200
200 - 400
300 - 600
400 - 800
500 - 1000 - Tourney should end somewhere near here since theres only 12xBB in play total.
I may make the first round or 2 30 mins instead just so everyone can get a feel, then ramp it to 20 mins. I figure this should last around 3 hours or so. I have also decided not to do re-buys so that the end of the tournament can be predicted far more accurately.

I busted out on the bubble
My wife tied for first though, when they got heads up she offered a deal to the other guy and he took it. 50/50 split of the first prize money ($102 total, $56 each).
Thanks for all the suggestions and help! | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
