You should have table captains, or at least 5+ other people who can help monitor the whole thing.
Also, what kind of players are you getting? I ask because new players are horrible when it comes to Antes. Last month I hosted an 18 man tourney at a cabin, one table in another room just "decided" not to use them! I thought I was gonna kill the guy who I put in charge of that table!!
I would suggest the ante's only when you are down to a few tables (3 or less).
Anyways....
A couple of tips:
- Have all your chips counted and racked ahead of time, it makes the buy-in process much easier.(plastic baggies with seating assignments works well to)
- Get a computer and run a tournament director program.
- Have racks/boxes or bags of chips set aside for coloring up and removal of the colored up chips. Don't do a chip race if the players are new, and you have at least 5 people to help you organize the race at each table. Just round everybody up to the next color chip. You get some grumbling, but not as much when you do a chip race and the guys can't comprehend what/why your doing it that way.
- Post a blinds schedule and tournament rules that you will be following at each table. It will make it easier to solve confusion if you have rules posted and readily availible.
- Get a mega phone. 200 people rarely focus on a speaker for any length of time when they can't hear you talking. That leads to all kinds of side bars and then the whole thing turns into a cluster$%#^!
Thanks all I can think of right now. If I come up with more I will pass them along.
Good Luck!
