Need advice on the amount of $25's I should have in my tourney

I am going to host a 8-10 player T3000 tourney and I need some advice on how many $25's I should start with in my tourney.

a)
20 x $25
15 x $100
2 x $500

or

b)
12 x $25
17 x $100
2 x $500

My Blinds Schedule (15 min levels)

25 - 50
50 - 75
75 - 150
100 - 200
150 - 300
Color up 25's
200 - 400
300 - 600
400 - 800
500 - 1000

Thank you in advance for your help

I'd think that 12 is enough (lots of people get by with 8 ). If you want a few more, you could always go with 16. If you've got the chips and like bigger stacks, I don't have any problem with 20, either.

Re: Need advice on the amount of $25's I should have in my tourney

We run the same tourney with the following breakdown. They all fit in one row of a chip rack, which makes prep easy.

#8 25
#8 100
#4 500

Works very well. Color is always available at the table if anyone runs out of a denom.

honestly? however many you have. get 'em all out there. If you're buying a chipset, 12 is adequate, 16 easier but obv. more expensive.

Re: Need advice on the amount of $25's I should have in my tourney

I used to do a T3000 and from a setup perspective, the easiest thing to do by far is 20x25 and 20x100. You know you need more chips anyway, right?

Occasionally someone does get a monster stack of greens that start getting in the way (espeically when some of my yahoos decide they need to count out all their bets 1 by 1 in green ). When that happens, I just color up a few of their stacks as I get time.

Re: Need advice on the amount of $25's I should have in my tourney

We like fewer greens on the table, and get by with 8 x $25 for a T$5,000 tourney. We skip the 150/300 blind level so we can color up the greens after 75/150. We find that most people go to $100+ bets right away (except for some limps) so the greens are usually just for blinds, and it's easy to make change if necessary.

So between 12 & 20, I think 12 greens is more than enough. But I've played at other games where people like to have lots of small chips, and use a big stack of greens to post their blinds up to $300.

I have to agree with Chris, "more chips" If it was my tourney, they would be getting 16 green ($400), 11 black ($1100) 3 purple ($1500).

12 is going to be plenty. If it were me I'd go with the 8(25) + 8(100) + 4(500) option as offered above by BrakeDust.

Re: Need advice on the amount of $25's I should have in my tourney

I run T2500 with the same blind schedule (at least up to the point where you remove Green) and am in the "the more chips the better" camp. I hand out 20x$25 and 20x$100 and only drop to 16x$25, 11x$100, & 2x$500 if I have over 16 people. Psycologically, people prefer to play with a "big stack". Secondly, I've got the chips, might as well use 'em. No sense having them if I'm going to leave most of them in the racks.

I would go with
8 @ 25
8 @ 100
4 @ 500

Make your blinds 20 min.

I think the 15 is a little to fast
