considering T20 ($20 means $20)

Locals have gotten back into poker around here, a friend had nearly 30 ppl in his house last month. Everyone is comfortable with a $20 freezeout + $5 bounty. Here is what I'm considering for an actual buy in amount of tournament chips. This would be done with my old nexgen set so there's no worry about tournament -> cash game ratholing.

I have designed this to be compatible with a) larger buyins in the future and b) an unlimited for two hour rebuy tournament. For now, I think we'll try a "saftey valve" rebuy where you can rebuy once, only if you bust.

Critique, comments, leeching welcome. I think it should end around level 16 if half the field rebuys, does that sound sane? Don't forget, most of these people aren't tournament players, they bust out on the craziest stuff. Usually one or two people have MASSIVE chipstacks near the end in this crowd.

Denoms and stack:
10 @ 0.05 red
10 @ 0.25 green
12 @ 1.00 black
1 @ 5.00 purple
0 @ 20.00 yellow
1 @ rebuy
1 @ bounty
35 chips to start (enough to be fun, not too many to inflate chipset)

Color up: 14 @ $1.00; 14 @ $5.00; 17 @ $20

1000 chips for this setup. Adding a rack of $20 chips to this will create *quite* a few rebuys.

Payouts for < 9 runners:
1st 65%
2nd 35%

Payouts for 9 - 17 runners:
1st 50%
2nd 30%
3rd 20%

Payouts for 18 - 27 runners:
1st 45% rounded up to nearest $5
2nd 30% rounded up to nearest $5
3rd 15% rounded up to nearest $5
4th approx 10%

Blinds:

Start at lvl1 for $20+5, start at lvl3 for $40+5 unless "deepstack"

This tournament is going to move from location to location so:

All chips packed in HahanStan's(sp) idea of 60 dram pillbottles. One per runner. Seat assignment inside lid.

PokerGenie to run the blinds

Three identical tables (still need to build these) for 8 people each, 9 in a pinch. (Dicks closeout would have been perfect, but no love here in denver)

A single 25x4 chip box to hold the color up/rebuy rack (still need this)

Big-ass (9 inch) trucker wallet with two bill pockets and one zippered pocket. One bill pocket is for buy-ins, the other is for bounties. The zippered pocket is for collected bounty/rebuy chips and to hold the $20 chips for the actual rebuy. This is a great way to keep a bank, I got the idea from Colorado Central Station casino in Blackhawk, CO. This thing is so massive I don't know how someone would use it for day-to-day use. His name is probably "Tiny".

Four mixed setups (one extra in case of damage) of my plastic cards. Shuffle behind method to be used. Four cut cards. Three dealer buttons.

Lots and lots of chairs

Re: T20 I am considering

Jeez man!! Anal much??!!

Seriously, still digesting everything, but one thing I don't get is the shuffle behind theory....

Iknow it's really common, but I prefer to have the big blind shuffle. He'd the last to act, after all, and he can just hand to the next guy on his right (new dealer) when he's done....

just a thought....

Re: considering T20 ($20 means $20)

Laziness is the mother of all anal planning? Heh, that's not even polished, I'm trying to make instructions so that any host in our group can run it and it's the same every time.

Thanks for the input about shuffling forward, I've tried both ways and it seems to be easier to get people to "shuffle the deck you just dealt" and then pass it off to the current SB. Everything continues moving in the same direction and no one shuffles thier own deal. This is a pretty new concept to most of the players in question.

Re: considering T20 ($20 means $20)

Change the $5-$10 and $7-$15 levels to $6-$12 and $8-$16.

Maybe also change the $40-$80 level to $35-$70. That makes that SB jump up 10 then 15, rather than 15 then 10.

Re: considering T20 ($20 means $20)

Different blinds, made 6/12 and 8/16. Reworked endgame assuming there was ever $1k on the table. Made it much less crapshooty.

I found new players pick up on the "shuffle the deck you just dealt" method easier too. I just noticed you use one cut card per table. I use two per table. Probably makes no difference, new players still don't shuffle in the cut cards too often. Heh.

Also silly questions, but where does one buy empty pill bottles?

I like the idea of the monster wallet for the bank too. I may have to steal that as well if I can find one.

Re: considering T20 ($20 means $20)

http://www.carolinaleatherworks.com/noname5.html <-- trucker wallet

I'm getting the bottles from hahanstan but I found bags of 55 online. I don't need 55 Pharmacy might sell some to you, dunno.

Yeah, I'm thinking that the cut card can help people remember where the damn button is. Cut card is left in place until hand is done. Cut card passing determines when the "next hand" is dealt for blind purposes.

edit: that is, the old dealer cuts the new deck ONTO the cut card, then the new dealer picks up the deck. As long as the old dealer has cut the first half of the deck onto the cut card *before* the timer goes off, the hand is played at old blind.

My aunt is a pharmacist, so if I ever need any for myself it shouldn't be too hard to get some Our games are still pretty small though, with 6-8 players usually, so it isn't really needed. Great idea, though.

Re: considering T20 ($20 means $20)

Very well thought out smoore. That tourny looks like it will be a blast to play in.

While I have thought of using a $20 chip it was mostly for use in cash games as a way of keeping the two sets separate entities and avoiding any crossovers.

How will you work the rebuy chip into the mix? Does everyone get them at the start and use them (plus $20 cash) to get a yellow chip or do you purchase the rebuy chip for an additional $20 at the start of the evening?

BTW, love the trucker wallet. Outstanding idea for a secure bank for the evening.
