On a side note I tried a T300 with my nevada jacks the other day. Literally divided everything by 5 so it was, in theory, the same. But with blinds of 1/2 people couldn't understand opening raises for like 6 or 8. They were more like 15 and 25. Haha good times none the less.
heh, this is actually the behavior I'm trying to induce with my ($20 means $20) tournament structure. I admit it, I'm selfish... I think it will benefit the skilled players as long as they have at least one rebuy chance in case they get sucked out on. Benefit them A LOT. Most of the people I know can't play a deep stack for poop, a skilled player will have multiple opportunities to build his/her stack in the early going.
25-100-500-... works for me much better than 5-25-100, simply because you need less chips at the lower levels as the lowest step is 4x rather than 5x. Especially at the 2nd level, 50/100 blinds will be 2 chips or 1 chip while 10/20 blinds needs 2 or 4 chips.
Below is a table with different possible levels. The columns are times lowest big blind, blinds with $25 as lowest chip, number of chips needed - dash - blinds with $5 as lowest chip, number of chips needed.
I think the scheme generally favours $25-100 vs. $5-25. Furthermore you have more choices of varying the starting chips for the lowest denomination if the lowest step is 4x (provided you want a "round" number of starting chips). With $25 as the lowest denomination, you can use any number divisible by 4 (e.g. 8-12-16-20-24-28 etc.), while with $5 as the lowest denomination, you can use any number divisible by 5 (10-15-20-25-30 etc.). The 4 factor is of course more versatile than the 5 factor as more numbers are divisible by 4 than by 5.
Regarding antes - I think it's better to avoid them. You have to keep your small chips in play much longer if you have antes.
