Help with tournament structure and antes

I just got my New Yorker chips, and I need a good structure for my tournaments. Here is my breakdowns, and my first attempt at a good structure. I have listed here my chip breakdowns for up to 20 players, although our tournaments rarely exceed 8 players so Im focusing the structure on that. In the future if we have large tournaments I can tweak the structure a bit. I really want to incorporate antes into the tournament.

Chip Set:
160 - $.25
175 - $1
165 - $5

Starting stacks = $50

Up To 8 Players
=============
20 x $.25
20 x $1
05 x $5

9-10 Players
=============
16 x $.25
16 x $1
06 x $5

11-13 Players
=============
12 x $.25
12 x $1
7 x $5

14-20 Players
=============
8 x $.25
8 x $1
8 x $5

And here is the structure. I feel like the antes are kinda all over the place. They go from 1/8th, to 1/12th, to 1/10th, to 1/7th, then back to 1/10th. Also, I know I could color up the $.25 after level 2, but I like having alot of chips on the table, and I want to start using the antes early in the game, if I color up I really couldnt use antes until at least level 5. I also think the pace really takes off towards the end, which might make make for a crapshoot late in the tournament. Any suggestions are appreciated.

STRUCTURE
=============
$.25/$.50
$.50/$1
$1/$2 - $.25
$2/$4 - $.50
$3/$6 - $.50
COLOR UP $.25
$5/$10 - $1
$7/$14 - $2
$10/$20 - $2
$15/$30 - $3
$20/$40 - $4
$25/$50 - $5
$30/$60 - $6

Re: Help with tournament structure and antes

Well, here is the actual WSOP blind/ante schedule, divided by 100. Of course, their starting stack is twice yours.

Level - SB - BB - Ante
1 - 25¢ - 50¢
2 - 50¢ - $1
3 - $1 - $2
4 - $1 - $2 - 25¢
5 - $1.50 - $3 - 50¢
6 - $2 - $4 - 50¢
7 - $2.50 - $5 - 50¢
8 - $3 - $6 - 75¢
9 - $4 - $8 - $1 (color up 25¢)
10 - $5 - $10 - $1
11 - $6 - $12 - $2
12 - $8 - $16 - $2
13 - $10 - $20 - $3
14 - $12 - $24 - $4
15 - $15 - $30 - $5 (color up $1)
16 - $20 - $40 - $5
17 - $25 - $50 - $5
18 - $30 - $60 - $10
19 - $40 - $80 - $10
20 - $50 - $100 - $10
21 - $60 - $120 - $20
22 - $80 - $160 - $20
23 - $100 - $200 - $30
24 - $120 - $240 - $40
25 - $150 - $300 - $50
26 - $200 - $400 - $50
27 - $250 - $500 - $50

Re: Help with tournament structure and antes

I think that structure is good. If I could make a couple of suggestions though, I would leave the .25 chips in even longer, and slow the progression of the blinds some, because if you get to the last couple rounds with only 8 players you are putting in half of your stack (or more) just to make a raise. That definitely will end the tournament quickly, but so will flipping a coin.

Another idea I had was to hand out fewer .25, then leaving them in longer won't result in having to use huge stacks to make small bets. This would then allow you to make your antes in a more relative amount (1/10th, etc)

Just some thoughts...
