Need help understanding

Last nite was the first time I've played in a multi table tourney. How are the seat positions decided during the game? Seemed like that most of the chip leaders were always at the same table which I feel is incorrect for a bigger possiblity that two or three can tangle and be short stacked or knocked out completely. Or is this the idea?

Re: Need help understanding

seating assignment in an MTT is supposed to be 100% random. all of the online sites (that i know if) claim that's the case. i too have felt that it was less than random at times, with 5 of the top 15 chipleaders at the same table with 500 people left in the game.

in real-life tournaments, when a table is going to be closed, they take all the available seat cards from the other tables and the players draw one at random - that is their new seat.

when just one person needs to be moved from one table to another, the tournament director will typically take the big blind from the heavy table and move them to the short-handed table. some places go the extra step of figuring out exactly which seat needs to be filled at the short-handed table and finding the player at the heavy table who is in exactly the same position relative to the button.

Re: Need help understanding

At my tournaments when a player gets busted, and causes the table to go short, a card is drawn to determine which heavy table loses a player. The person who moves from that table will be in the same seat position as the busted player so that no one player pays more or less in respect to the blinds.

Hope that helps.

Re: Need help understanding

And that is the correct way to do it. That way no one can say "favorites".
