Chips: 1,049 | | | Starting Stack to Big Blind Multiple I've only hosted cash games thus far, but want to start a monthly tourney.
I have only played one live tourney (6th out of 150), and a few online (about 8tourneys...only cashed once, freeroll on Absolute), but I do not have a good feel for blind schedules.
Doing some reading here and at HPT.com ans a couple of other sites, it seems that the Starting stack to Big blind multiple ranges from 50x to 200x.
So I am curious what multiple you prefer, and the advantages and disadvantages of the different multiples for a tournament scheduled to last about 2.5 to 3 hours.
Thanks!!!

Chips: 1,929 | | | Re: Starting Stack to Big Blind Multiple For a 3-hour tournament, I would start with 50x the big blind. Blinds at 15 or 20 minutes would be about right. If you run a T1,000
10-20
15-30
20-40
25-50
50-100
75-150
100-200
150-300
200-400
300-600
400-800
500-1,000
If you want a longer tournament, you could a T10,000 (what I play)
50-100
100-200
150-300
200-400
300-600
400-800
500-1,000
600-1,200
800-1,600
1,000-2,000
1,500-3,000
2,000-4,000
2,500-5,000
3,000-6,000
4,000-8,000
5,000-10,000 |

Chips: 501 | | | Re: Starting Stack to Big Blind Multiple I voted 100X, but the time during each blind level and the amount the blinds increase are a more important factor in determining how long a game will last.
My game generally ends when the big blind is approximately 6% of the total chips in play. So if you know how many players you have and how much in starting chips you will hand out, you should be able to create a blind schedule that will meet your timetable. |

Chips: 1,845 | | | Re: Starting Stack to Big Blind Multiple I start out with 60x. T3,000 with 25-50 as the first level. My games usually run 3 to 3.5 hours. For levels 1 & 2 (25-50 and 50-100) we go 30 minutes to give some extended time at the lower blind levels. From there on up it's 20 minutes per level until the 3 hours mark. Then I go 10 minutes. It's usually very shorthanded or heads up by then and as much fun as it can be, I'd rather that part go quickly since all the bustouts are usually clamoring for another game. |

For cash, often times lower to start but many people buy more chips. |

If the multiple starts high, and blinds accelerate quickly, I would assume the dynamics of the game would become more loose? Is that a bad thing?
would starting with a low multiple, and having slowly accelerating blinds result in a tighter less exciting game....?
Just thinking out loud...

Eric | Well shorter blinds are going to make the game more dependent on getting good cards, and less on skill.
Slower blinds are no less exciting, just less pressure around forcing marginal hands into bad situations.

I would rather start with 40x the BB, and have levels last 30 minutes, than starting with 100x the BB, and having the levels breeze by at 15 or 20 minutes. |

Chips: 2,872 | | | Re: Starting Stack to Big Blind Multiple I'm an "other". 75xBB. T1500, starting blinds 10-20. I use the T1000 blind schedule from HPT and just give everyone an extra 500 chip to start with. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
