Chips: 501 | | | Stack/Blind structure sticky? I think there should be a stickied thread for people to post their tournament starting stacks and blind structures It can be a bit of a pain to search for them, and I'm always looking for some new ideas...
Like now, I'm just looking for ideas for a new structure. One guy mentioned something last night at our game, which I partially agree with. Right now we have T10k starting stacks, with blinds starting at 25/50. Although, he's complaining about our 2-2.5 hour games being too long Since I have almost a couple of sets now, with plans to get more, why not have a mix of structures?
I'm thinking a higher one for my Egyptians, because of the octagons and plaques (which I wish I had more of). And maybe a lower one for the Samurai set I'll get soon, since I like the $5 more than the $1000. Edit: I might as well post what I'm using at the moment, for our 8 player max games: Starting stacks (T10,000, 42 chips)
12 x 25
17 x 100
10 x 500
3 x 1000 Blinds
25/50 (15 min, the rest are 10 min)
50/100
75/150
100/200
150/300
colour up T25 chips
200/400
300/600
400/800
500/1000
700/1400
colour up T100 chips
1000/2000
1500/3000
... and increase by 500/1000 each level after this. Our games usually end around the 500/1000 to 1000/2000 level, after 2-2.5 hours. It's worked rather well over the last few months, and is fairly close to how long we want our games to be.
I've been thinking about making a structure that has the T500 chip as the highest, instead of T1000, just because there isn't much of a difference between the two. I guess I'd have to step down to use T5 chips then.

What a great idea, so many people either ask or look for this very kind of advice and this type of section would make it much easier to share and find answers. I think we should do it but wonder why I didn't come up with this idea sooner myself.

I have run a lot of T2000 tournaments that start the blinds at $25 $25 and then go up to 25 50 etc. Those tournaments lasted 1.5 hours to 3.5 depending on how aggressive I raised the blinds, how many players, re-buys and just circumstances. Starting chips are 8 - 25, 8 - 100 and 2 -500 - OR 12 - 25, 12 - 100 and 1 - 500. If you have enough chips you can always do 20 - 25 and 15 - 100, but I find that is a pain, especially when I have more than one table and have to move players to balance tables. |

Chips: 932 | | | Re: Stack/Blind structure sticky? Here's a start. I can't take credit for it, a guy in our group put this together. You'll find blind structures and chip counts for 8 or 10 players, and games lasting from 2 hours to 6 hours. There are also two setups, one where the largest chip is a $500, and the other the largest chips is a $50,000. It also shows you how many chips you'll need in your set to make this work.
----------------------------------------------------
1st choose whether you want to have a 'Regular' setup, or a 'Big' setup.
* The 'Regular' uses 1$ (White), $5 (Red), $25 (Green), $100 (Black), and $500 (Purple) chips.
* The 'Big' uses $100 (Black), $500 (Purple), $2,500 (Orange), $10,000 (???), and $50,000 (???) chips.
'Regular' info follows, 'Big' info is right after that lower down in the post...
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
'Regular' Blind Schedule
....1 - 2....
....2 - 4....
....3 - 6....
....5 - 10...
...10 - 20...
...15 - 30...
...25 - 50...
...50 - 100..
..100 - 200..
..200 - 400..
..300 - 600..
..500 - 1000.
.....PROJECTED TOURNEY END.....
.1000 - 2000.
.1500 - 3000.
The reason the above works so well, is that if you use 10 min blinds, it will last 2 Hrs, 15 min blinds = 3 Hrs, 20 min blinds = 4 Hrs, 25 min blinds = 5 Hrs, and 30 min blinds = 6 Hrs.
If you use the 'Regular' blind schedule, to handle up to an 8 player tourney you need the following chips:
160 - Whites (1)
160 - Reds (5)
96- Greens (25)
80 - Blacks (100)
56 - Purples (500)
TOTAL = 552 chips
If you want to be able to handle up to a 10 player game:
200 - Whites (1)
200 - Reds (5)
120- Greens (25)
100- Blacks (100)
60 - Purples (500)
TOTAL = 680 chips
'Regular' starting amount for 8 player:
20 x 1 = $20
16 x 5 = $80
8 x 25= $200
7 x 100= $700
3 x 500= $1500
Total = $2500
'Regular' starting amount for 10 player:
20 x 1 = $20
16 x 5 = $80
8 x 25 = $200
7 x 100= $700
2 x 500= $1000
Total = $2000

.30,000 - 60,000.
.50,000 - 100,000

160 - Purples (500)
96- Oranges (2500)
80 - ??? (10,000)

I have read that article, and it was quite useful. But I'm also interested in the sharing of ideas.
