Chips: 12,507 | | | Re: 27 to 30 man tourney help A good rule of thumb to go by is the 1/100th rule - make your initial big blind 1/100th of your starting amount and you should have no problem with chips or time. I use a 25/100/500/1000 chip setup and play T5000 tourneys. Each player starts with 20 25's, 20 100's, and 5 500's for 45 chips each; however, to keep the overall number of chips down you could go with 8 25's, 8 100's, 4 500's, and 2 1000's. For 30 players that would mean a minimum of 240 25's, 240 100's, 120 500's, and 60 1000's. A great overall set for re-buys and color-ups would be 240 25's, 240 100's, 150 500's and 120 1000's for a total of 750 chips.
If this sounds interesting to you, PM me and I can give you my entire blind schedule or anything else you like.
I play a weekly game with this format and it always lasts 2-3 hours with no problem. I know you are interested in a T1500 game, but in my experience the format I have outlined has worked the best for me over the long haul.

Chips: 1,992 | | | Re: 27 to 30 man tourney help I think you should definitely start with at least 25-30 chips per man. 30 x 30 starting chips = 900. You will likely need a 1000 to 1200 chip set. I would suggest a lot of 5's, 25's, and 100's, with some 500's. You should really check out www.homepokertourney.com for this, but I will give it a try for you.
20 red $5 chips = $100
16 gre $25 chips = $400
10 bla $100 chips = $1,000
46 chips that is a ton but you could use this or
10 red $5 chips = $50
10 gre $25 chips = $250
7 bl $100 chips = $700
1 pur $500 chip = $500
28 chips (more manageable) worth $1500
Then you buy
30 x 10 red chips = 300
30 x 10 green chips = 300
30 x 7 black chips = 210
30 x 1 purple chip = 30
Throw in some extras for rebuys and color ups (you will only need 100's and 500's at the end of the tourney, so they should be worth 1500 x 30 players in those two colors)
I would go with this:
325 red chips
325 green chips
250 black chips
100 purple chips |

Chips: 385 | | | Re: 27 to 30 man tourney help BigKyle has a pretty good breakdown. But you could get by with less than 1000 chips if you really want to. You could do:
$5 - 10
$25 - 6
$100 - 3
$500 - 2
That is 21 chips per person, which is as thin as you can stretch.
You could get by with 800 chips (this would allow for 13 rebuys of $1500 too):
$5 - 325
$25 - 225
$100 - 150
$500 - 100
I also like these breakdowns:
$5 - 15
$25 - 13
$100 - 11
$500 - 0
or
$5 - 15
$25 - 13
$100 - 6
$500 - 1
Also, the blind schedule looks good to me.

Chips: 17,155 | | | Re: 27 to 30 man tourney help here's what i get using lego's spreadsheet, assuming 30 players and a 1500 buyin.
this is the absolute minimum stack i would use (32 chips)
10 red
10 green
12 black
total needed (including complete colorups for reds and greens)
red X 300
green X 360
Black X 450
purple X 90
1200 chips total
what i'd prefer:
15 red
13 green
11 black
39 chips to start
total:
450 red
480 green
450 black
90 purple
1470 chips. fill it out to 1500 with some extra purples and yellows for rebuys. |

Chips: 1,728 | | | Re: 27 to 30 man tourney help I'd suggest starting with 25/25 blinds working to 25/50 and on up the line. For T1500, 20-25s and 10-100s should keep things simple. You can color up as the blinds increase with the first color up taking place when the blinds get to 100/200, then remove the 100s at 1000/2000. Alternatively, you could go from 400/800 to 500/1000 and get rid of the 100s at that time. Quote: |

I like a number of ideas here.
I am going to have a cash game set of. .25, 1.00, 5.00 so maybe making the tourney set start at 25.00 might be a good idea since the cash game will be for the loosers.
But then I would have to change my structure.
I was hoping to stay in the 2,000 chip range but i could go as high as 2,500 if I had to.
I am not running 3 table tourneys yet but want to be prepared and not have to go through this again untill I buy real chips.
I may or may not have rebuys but if I do probably no more than 1 the first hour but want enough chips in case I decide to do that.
I would rather have more than not enough.
By the time I get real chips I should be doing this long enough to know what works best for me.
Keep sending the ideas.
By the way you guys are better than home tourney. (answer faster) |
