i want to host a horse tournament: HELP!

here's what i think i know:

h: holdem
o: omaha hi
r: razz
s: 7stud
e: eight or better omaha

games change with the blinds. all games use a structured betting system.
winner is the guy with all the chips.

here are some questions: 7stud...how much should the antes/bringins/big bets work, in order to correspond to the blind games?

am i right to assume that the table should be no bigger than 7, to accomodate the 2 7-card games?

that's mostly what i'm concerned with right now, but i guess there's more. tell me!!!

Re: i want to host a horse tournament: HELP!

You can play up to 8 for the 7 card games. If for some reason all 8 are still in, instead of dealing out the last down card, you can deal one community card face up in the middle of the table.

just for reference Full Tilt do their HORSE tourneys like this:

H Holdem
O Omaha
R Razz
S 7 Stud
E 7 Stud hi/lo

1500 starting chips - game changes each blind level, button moves after every hand

Level 1 30/60
Level 2 40/80
Level 3 50/100 with 10 ante, 25 bring in
Level 4 60/120 with 10 ante, 30 bring in
Level 5 80/160 with 15 ante, 40 bring in
Level 6 100/200
Level 7 120/240
Level 8 150/300 with 25 ante, 75 bring in
Level 9 200/400 with 30 ante, 100 bring in
Level 10 250/500 with 40 ante, 125 bring in
etc...

Hope that helps

Re: i want to host a horse tournament: HELP!

How do they get the "E" for HORSE out of 7 stud hi/lo? Doesn't that make it a HORSS tourney?

Re: i want to host a horse tournament: HELP!

*sigh* I'm the worst host ever. I really am still hoping to do this sometime Jojo. My understanding is that the E is Seven Card Stud (E)ight or better (meaning that the "worst" low hand is 4567. This was actually for SHOE (no razz), but I came up with this after some web-browsing & soul searching:

T40 with 0.25/1/5 chips.

LEVEL SB BB Ante Bring
1 0.5 1 0.25 0.25
2 0.75 1.5
3 1 2
4 1.5 3 0.25 0.75
5 2 4 0.25 1
6 2.5 5
7 3 6
8 4 8 1 2
9 5 10 1 3
10 6 12
11 8 16
12 10 20 5 5
13 15 30 5 15
14 20 40
15 25 50

Big blind hits the buyin in between levels 12 & 13 (fairly standard) & the BB never increases more than 50% above the previous level. I'm not sure about all the antes/brings though. I suspect I'd have to play one or two to decide on those.

Re: i want to host a horse tournament: HELP!

HORSE

Hold'em, Omaha, Razz, Stud, Stud Hi/Lo Eight or better

SHOE

Stud, Hold'em, Omaha Hi/Lo, Stud Hi/Lo Eight or better

I have a couple different SHOE schedules both of which I have run and they were a lot of fun. There would not need to be much change to it for a HORSE tourney.

The proper - or casino way - to deal any stud game is to deal out the the hole and door cards, then after each betting round burn a card and deal the round. There should be 4 burn cards at the end of the hand (if played to 7th street/river). Whoever is dealing the hand needs to check the number of cards left - if there is a possibility of running out (with burn cards it happens more than you think). There has to be at least one card left after dealing out the cards - if not - then a community card is put on the table. It is possible to have two community cards, but that is unlikely (we played with nine players for one SHOE tournament and I think it happened on one hand).

Re: i want to host a horse tournament: HELP!

JoJo homepokertourney has a couple on the blind sample page. The Foxwoods NEPC schedule has a good HOSE schedule that you could modify to meet your needs. We used it for HOPS - holdem, omaha 8, pineapple, stud. HOPS for better tasting beer and fun tournaments!

Re: i want to host a horse tournament: HELP!

*sigh*

If anyone can explain to be how to make a table I'll fix my post above but I gave up. I think that having 2 of the games be blind games with no antes and the other 2 (or 3 if HORSE) being antes/bring games is kind of cool. It might be better to make antes for all levels, though. I'm really not sure.

HOPS tournament?!?! That's AWESOME. I love pinapple. I have no idea how to play it but that's part of the fun.
