Chips: 158 | | | Help me with tourney structure I can't figure out an optimal structure for these tourneys. I either don't have enough chips, have too many, or it's just screwy. The tourney is a $5 rebuy/addon with 20 minute levels and 6 player tables. The starting stack, rebuy, and add on amounts are all t1500 (this should probably be t1000). Rebuys end after level 3. We average ten to sixteen people, and have never had more than 18. The target time for this is three to four hours.
Chips we have: 200 white (currently t5), 100 red (t10), 150 green (t25), 75 black (t100), 50 yellow (t500), 20 blue (t1000).
Levels
1 -- 5/10
2 -- 10/20
3 -- 15/30
(rebuys end)
4 -- 25/50
5 -- 50/100
6 -- 75/150
(white and red raced off)
7 -- 100/200
8 -- 150/300
9 -- 200/400
(green raced off)
10 -- 300/600
11 -- 400/800
12 -- 600/1200
13 -- 800/1600
14 -- 1000/2000
15 -- 1500/3000
16 -- 2000/4000 |

Chips: 1,526 | | | Re: Help me with tourney structure Well the structure looks okay. It seems to me that it would end before 3 hours, but I don't know the guys in your group. What is your starting stack like? It seems that your set is a little light on the blacks, adding another 50-75 would give you ample room for 20 players as well as coloring up all the lower chips.
I was thinking this out, is this close to what your starting stack is like?
White 5* 10 =50
Red 10* 5 =50
Green 25* 8 =200
Black 100* 2 =200
Purple 500* 2 =1000
for a total of 1500?? If so I definitely think that you need to add some blacks, all the other chips seem fine. But there are others here more experienced that myself!
Good Luck |

If everyone buys in and adds-on not counting re-buys; with 15 players that is 3000 a piece for 45,000 worth of chips. You have exactly 45K in 500 and 1000 chips - so add a couple re-buys and you can't race off the 100 value chips. I used to run T1500 tournaments and switched to T2000 or greater. I simplified the chips I hand out to green (25), black (100), and purple (500) - I usually just hand out 8 green, 8 black, and 2 purple - most people like to hand out more than that - something like: 20 green, 10 black, 1 purple or 20 green, 15 black. With my set up you need 160 green(25), 200 black(100) and 40 purple(500) for 20 people + Plus 20 1000 value chips if you want to color up the 100 value chips. Once you have re-buys and add-ons you can hand those out with higher value chips and buy more 500 value or and 1000 value chips. Players can make change at the table. What you are doing works and if your players like it I would not necessarily change it - you just need some more chips. You can probably get away with just buying more higher denom chips. I assume you hand out something like 10 (5), 5 (10), 8 (25), 2 (100), and 2 (500). That is a lot of different values to keep track of, which is why I simplified my tournaments and starting chips. The blinds schedule seems fine for the set up you are using. |

Chips: 2,136 | | | Re: Help me with tourney structure i know it doesn't help much, but I think that you have too many denominations, and too few chips in each one. If you don't like the idea of having two different colours for one denom, then you could try running the chips you have and the other details of your tournies through the spreadsheet in this thread: http://chiptalk.net/forum/showthread...ht=spreadsheet
I've run quite a few tournaments and i still find this sheet really useful when ordering chips etc. I think it will indicate your solution. Note that it doesn't take into account the chips you need to colour up, although it could be modified pretty easily to do so. |

My one saving grace so far has been the relative cheapness of my players. Being a former Magic player, I brought some of my friends from those circles along into these tourneys, and god, they're cheap. They like to avoid taking rebuys and addons unless absolutely necessary, and in our last tourney, we had only four rebuys and one addon (me). I'm thinking these numbers will go up with the structure listed here, as the one we played last week was slightly slower and encouraged less action.
So add a rack or two of black (and maybe purple) and I'm set then? |

Chips: 1,071 | | | Re: Help me with tourney structure Some more black and some more of the colors you are using for 500 and 1000.
Unless you plan on changing to more traditional colors I would not get any purple. |

Although I may have to label these as a cash set and order 1000 super diamonds for a tourney set. :P |

Chips: 1,071 | | | Re: Help me with tourney structure I own about 500 of the 9 gram super diamonds (my young kids like to play with them). They really are not that bad. However, for not too much more, you can get some NexGens, which look great (they feel and sound like plastic surrounding metal). With NexGens you can buy a box of Avery labels and print out your own custom chips. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
