Not sure about previous years, but the announcement this year was they will play 9 unless they run out of space and then go 10 to a table.

The WSOP ME has always been 9 handed whenever possible.

Maybe you have always seen the "last table/unofficial final table" where they play the final table bubble at one table of 10 :)

Flop games have always been 9 handed (except for the 6 handed and heads-up tournaments).
Stud Games have always been 8 handed (including HORSE).
No Limit Single Draw Games are 7 handed.
Limit Triple Draw Games are 6 handed (including 8-Game, 10-Game, and Dealer's Choice).

That makes sense. I'm assuming all those photos of 10-handled tables were the "overflow" tables when they ran out of space.

    Thanks!

They have announced in previous years that they would run 10-handed in spots on Day 1C (or whatever the final Day 1 flight was) for the Main Event. They did this last year (2014), but my table ran 9-handed. Since the year where they turned people away wanting to register on the last day because they were "sold out", it has been their policy to accommodate as many players as they possibly can without undermining the integrity of the tournament. Personally, I think 10-handed on some tables and not others in the same event is unfair and totally sucks, but it can happen in the Main Event. I also imagine they might go there in other super large field events like the Colossus, Millionaire Maker, and Monster Stack (should the demand exist). As a side note to an earlier comment made, there was a $5,000 buy-in 8-handed NLHE event this year on June 10th. It was named as such, so there is at least one 8-handed NLHE event. I have not played in any, but my understanding is that all EPT NLHE events (unless otherwise specified) are played 8-handed.

I agree... Mixing 9 handed and 10 handed in the same event is total crap. Especially when you're paying $10,000 to play.

So you guys are saying you would rather have all the tables 9-handed than a couple 100 more entries?
