Don't forget rep hammers also comes from the number of posts and length of time being a member. JM's ginormous rep hammer is primarily from his 80 bagillion posts.

    Not to worry.

I tend to be pretty frugal with my rep hammer, but it seems to hit Wyle comparatively often. IMO, he's earned his + reputation.

While my post above was mostly for fun, I was also trying to make a point...
The rep system is here for the members to make of it whatever they will. Some people take it seriously, some don't. Some abuse it, and some exploit it. On balance, though, a member's rep means whatever the collective membership think it means.

I personally have no problem with this thread, as it is all in good fun and contributed to the camaraderie of the site. But if rep is given randomly, then it becomes meaningless.

Again, I have no problem with this thread. I'm just suggesting that as a general rule, we should think about what we want rep to mean when we hammer.

Yeah I agree. But most of the people on this thread are people we all know and respect already and it is just in fun. Besides in the grand scheme of things the <20 bump anyone gets from this thread won't change much. Hell almost all of the people i tried to bump on this thread I had to spread around before giving again.

I agree with all of this as well. So many of the people I want to hit in recognition of fine CT service are out of reach due to recent hammers. :)

    Including my Capt.

As you can see from my first post I was going to spread a little celebratory rep when this thread suddenly too a life of its own. I try to make a point of spreading rep where I feel it is deserved instead of just randomly spraying it all over the place.

Well congrats on your +3 anyway. I'm closing in on swinging that +4 in just a few more posts. Need to do some extra working out to swing it!

Excellent point Capt. - I'm going to think about what I want rep to mean when I use my hammer. Cheers. -jamby

Every so often, we get on one of these group hugs and spread rep around. So it seems to be a postive thing overall.

Besides, boons hammer last night put me up to a rep 4 and another green box, so that was fun.

I've hit back the +reps that I've got... but my measley +1 rep pales in comparison to Brewster's +3 he hit me with. Matthew hit me too, and noel... I can't hit Matthew back until I spread the love...

Right now, here is my rep hammer:

Another 145 posts, 20-some rep points and 7 months, I'll swing the +4 hammer....
