To celebrate the new Chiptalk I'm offering a very simple contest. Here it is:

    1. Post something positive in this thread.

Ideally it would be something about Chiptalk, fellow Chiptalkers, or chips you found because of Chiptalk (pr0n welcome), but it also includes happy non-chip-related stories and comments about other posts in this thread.

    2. From time to time I'll pick a random post (via roulette wheel, dart board, dice, draw out of a hat, etc) and post the winner here. I'll also PM ("conversate"?) the winner to get a mailing address.

    3. The winner picks a prize listed below and I send it to the winner. Simple!

    Fine Print:
-Post as often as you'd like, but each participating member's name goes into the drawing for prizes only once. So whether you have one post in this thread or 200, your name is entered in the drawing only once. The good news is it that all names stay active in the drawing until they win (or until the prizes run out)
-There is no deadline, per se. When the prizes run out, the contest is over.

    Thanks and good luck!
    -Mark

    I'll start:

I had custom sets of ASMs and Chipcos made in 2002; I hosted poker nights and casino nights for a couple of years. Then I met my wife in 2004, got married in 2005, bought and renovated a house in 2006, and our daughter came along in 2007. So my chips had been in storage for several years by the time I had a couple weeks off for our daughter's birth.

One day during those two weeks my wife and daughter were both taking a nap and all the baby chores were caught up so I had some time to sort through stuff in the basement. I came across my chip cases and for the first time in a long time I cracked open the black case of ASMs. The first thing I noticed was the smell. It's hard to describe the smell but anyone who's held a handful of fresh ASMs to their nose knows what I'm talking about. Anyway, I got all nostalgic about chips so I went online and started searching "custom chips" to see what was available five years after my initial findings.

Chiptalk was the first or second listing. I had no idea a community like this existed. I thought I was the only guy (outside of casino equipment purchasing agents, maybe) who was interested in custom chips. (I knew about the collectible chip groups, but collecting playable sets of chips/making custom chips is different.) Imagine how pleasantly surprised I was to learn that not only were there people like me who liked custom chips but that their passion/addiction for these little platters of sweetness fueled an entire web site of chip information and projects. It would be like Toothless discovering a whole island full of Night Furies.*

Anyway, I feel fortunate for all of the experiences I'd had because of Chiptalk. Most of all I'm grateful for the friendships that have derived from CT. (Some pretty sweet chips/cards/etc. courtesy of all sorts of CT group buys and sponsors are a nice bonus, too!)

    Thanks, everyone!

*My wife and I have two kids now, 7 and 5; lots of animated movies playing at our casa. For those who don't know, Toothless is from How To Train Your Dragon. It's a great movie, even for adults. Highly recommended!

Thanks for the contest, Mark! What a great way to start off this cold, rainy day here in Texas. Rained all night last night and yard is flooded.....but hey, we need the rain, so can't complain. I love contests......don't know why, but anytime there is chips to be won, I'm in. lol! Now, I'll be thinking about something of value to post.

Loved your 'story' to kick it off. :)

    Awesome contest! Here's my contribution:

My 10 favorite things that have happened on/because of Chiptalk:

    - Josh starting the LinkStrong movement and the long list of kind things that followed (including the other Josh's recovery)
    - PAZ giving random people surprise chip gifts
    - Nana doing fancy welcomes/happy birthdays
    - the design threads, from development to pr0n
    - the poker chip factory
    - the many Group Buys, including the original Pharoahs and especially the latest which will see a couple hundred thousand affordable and awesome chips on poker tables around the world
    - I have dozens of poker friends collected over 8 years that I wouldn't otherwise had
    - three custom sets
    - the samples of other people's custom chips they've given or sold me over the years
    - PNYs/arconellc (although just too late to get high denoms)

    First off, Thank you toad94.
Second, this is why I like CT, sooo many nice people on here, great conversations, great stories, and best of all CHIPS CHIPS CHIPS.

I was able to put together two AWESOME poker chip sets from conversations on CT, my very first set was a mixed Empress cash set that has now turned into a Full Empress set including Empress elusive $1 Primary's. I also was able to put a set of MINT Casino De Isthmus together..
I don't have any picks of the full Empress set but here is a pic with the $1 I labeled as Empress. Oh, I almost forgot, I got to set up a group buy on a cool "Its a Paulson thing you wouldn't understand" shirt, that was really fun and the comments and support is Awesome.

Those Casino de I.C. Paulsons are SWEET! We just played with some Viva Las Vegas Paulsons last Saturday and there's nothing like leaded chips :)

Positive observation about chiptalk: the poker chip community is unlike most where everyone seems to support each other whether it be a design feedback, home game issues, hand history review or off topic real life stuff. There's minimal trolling (if any at all).

Collectively we're not expert players, but we are experts on how to make a poker game a better experience for all players.

    Because of ChipTalk:

    1) I have met some great fellow members/human beings - Linkslayer, Trihonda, Jeff, Abby, AlbinoDragon, BPT Director, TommytheCat, to name a few. (Not necessarily in any particular order.)

    2) Played in two ChipTalk events, used the hosts custom chip sets and had lots of fun in the process.

    3) Come to appreciate my own custom chips which, until I found this site, I thought were only slightly better than dice chips.

    4) Picked up some nice chairs for my table for $0 courtesy of Jeff.

    5) Drank some beer while I played cards.

Chiptalk rocks! One of my favorite activities to finish my day is to check in to the chiptalk site and catch up on whats happening. The custom sets displayed here blow away the chips you find in a real casino. The creativity is fantastic! The friendliness of the forum members is second to none! Thank you all for helping me develop an interest in custom chips!

The pr0n of the custom chips is the best thing about ChipTalk. However a close second is the friendliness and knowledge of the users on ChipTalk. In addition, the knowledge contained in old threads is immense. Oh, did I mention the pr0n.

What don't I Love about this place. Nothing! Even during the recent uprising I came by daily hoping all would become righteous again and I believe we are well on the way!

There are too many good things to not love it here.

Great people who have bonded together over a common interest.

The Chip Factory where you can visualize your dreams.

The Galleries where you can ogle everyone's awesome chip sets.

The friendships I've forged with Jeff, Puggy(my chip soul mate right here), Ten, Nana, and many many others.

    Chips, chips, chips!!

All of chipdom's collective knowledge is gathered here, the Smithsonian of casino chip lore.

    Too much to mention!

Good will to all that visit here from BPT Land!! WELCOME!!!

I am happy to be back on chiptalk after a long absence. Because I came back after all of the negative things that we're going on in ever really got caught up in it. Within the last 2 or 3 weeks it seems like it is business as usual. Lots of positive talk, lots of great pics and lots of things for sale.
Mark, thank you starting this thread not only with the opportunity to win something but to get people together to remember what this sight is and should be about.
    Kudos to you

What's not to like about ChipTalk? I have always loved the product reviews; I have accumulated most of my awesome poker accoutrements based on reviews posted here.

One of my favorite CT memories is the April Fools Day prank with Jean LaMonde and semi-custom Paulsons. Did anybody else stay up half of the night working on inlay ideas or chip denom breakdowns before the truth came out?

    Here's another random edge shot:
