This was on the approval list in August and I hadn't followed up on it. But Andy Hughes at the chipboard posted a picture of the new $4 Poker room chip in this message. Dont know whether it is a game chip or a drop chip. Drop chips are often a little more difficult to get because the room controls them a little more.

I also dont know if the different varieties exist (LCV/H&C, LCV/LCV, H&C/H&C). So if anyone is in the area maybe they can do some digging.

    Ross,

I don't know about varieties, but a great story (for me anyway!).

Pam (my wife, who lives in Vegas) (I know that you know this Ross) called me on Wednesday and said that she and a friend (from out of town) were at the Tropicana doing the Titanic Exhibit. Pam called me to ask if I wanted some giftshop item, and from Andy's scan, I was prompted to ask her to stop by the poker room and get some $4 chips.

Later on she called back to say that she was told No, as the $4 chips were/are Drop Chips! She told me that she asked politely for one, but was told that they had just turned away some guy wanting to buy a rack of them and had a No Sale policy in effect. At which point she pleaded for just 1 so that her husband could gloat, err... have one in his collection.

Ross knows how persistent (convincing) my wife can be and I now have one (and only one) $4 drop chip from the Tropicana.

But I've gotta tell ya. As hard as the chip is to get right now, the minute they opt for a 4-8 game, these things will be dirt cheap (+ about $4 each)!

My chip is in Vegas and I won't see it for another two weeks. :sorry:

In the meantime, this is what the chip look likes:

Please note: This scan is from CT member Andy Hughes (NevadaCasinoChips) who also runs a New Issue Service (NIS) out of Las Vegas. While under normal circumstances Andy may have had this chip available for purchase (drop chips can be tough to get) at the present time it is not because Andy has put his business on hiatus until February 2009. As noted at his website, Andy plans to re-open on February 2nd.

While on the subject of NevadaCasinoChips, Andy maintains a Las Vegas area Poker Room page listing those casinos with poker rooms and a bit of information for each. Here is the link:

    Southern Nevada Poker Rooms

Andy advises that in the past, when a poker room closed, he would just delete it from the list. However, he now plans to just note a closing date for those rooms that close and leave them on the list to record what once was. Accordingly, the rooms at the Excalibur and Paris are now tagged as closed (even though the Excalibur has an electronic table version in operation). There is some conjecture that we will see many more closings in the near term.

So I was in Vegas last weekend and decided to go get me a chip from the Tropicana. I went at 8am and they did have a table open. I asked for one and the room supervisor said no. Well we talked for a few minutes and he said "well as long as you dont try to cash it in i can sell you one". So I got mine.

Another chipper flew in to meet me and we went over again that evening. They said no, no way, and hell no. So we went back the next morning and he was able to talk them out of one.
