Doesn't seem like there is much posting on this board :sorry:

Anywho, the other night one of my friends mentioned a new game to play and it turned out to be awesome fun. It's called Time Bomb Holdem and heres how it works:

At the start of the game (basically when everyone in the group agrees to the game) everyone puts one big blind into a jackpot off to the side of the table. Then, one joker is added to the deck. The joker functions like a normal 7 card, and is treated like a 7 on the board as well.

Heres the catch: If you win the pot with the joker in your hand, you win the jackpot. However, if you lose the hand with the joker, you add a big blind to the existing jackpot. Even if you just fold a hand preflop containing the joker you must add a big blind. (this requires some honesty by players, I caught my friend throwing his hand away without paying his BB )

When someone wins the jackpot with the joker, everyone contributes another BB to the new jackpot and the game resumes

Obviously this creates some really cool bluffing scenarios. When the jackpot gets huge, everyone assumes that big raises are an attempt to win the pot with a joker.

    Heres some tips:

-Pocket 7's and other draws become 'lucky' as you have an extra out to hit with the joker in the deck.
-The best hand you can have with the joker is A7, so you have to pick your spots carefully.

Anyway, any suggestions are welcome and feel free to try the game out!

Not to mention someone who expects honesty from poker players! Sure I'll show you when I'm mucking the joker -- not.

This might be fun if the blinds are 5/10 at a full table and you have a
dedicated dealer to check discards to make sure...
It would make a pot worth playing for.
Can the suit of the 7 be what ever you want it to be?

pltrgyst - Our group didn't have any problem mentioning when they folded the joker, but I hang with a pretty honest crowd.: I guess an alternative is to make it so losing with the joker does nothing, but you may as well play the 7-2 game at that point.

hardhouse - ya once the game broke and we were down to 4-5ish players the game doesn't work well at all and we ended up quitting. with full ring its quite a fun party game though.

    We play 7-2 occasionally.

I don't see the Joker game working. Too easy for some players to 'forget' they mucked it.

So, technically, you could lose with trip 7s to quad 7s?

...and what's the suit situation again. Is it any suit or is it a non suited card or something?

Have the jokers play as aces, or straight and flush cards, as in Pai Gow poker.

You can have a rule that if the river card is bet & called, or checked around, all players in the hand must show their cards. That will eliminate someone 'forgetting' to show his joker card.

We played a version of this last night.
    • Instead of adding a Joker, we elected the 3s and 3c to be both Jackpot cards (not wild).
    • If you're dealt one and you lose a hand with it, you owe 1bb ($.25).
    • If you win a hand with a black 3 you get the Jackpot.
    • If it's a split pot both with a black 3 it's Jackpot is split too.
    • If either of the black 3s show on the board then it's a bb from everyone into the JP.
During the 1.5 hrs that we played it, the JP only went once then we had to race it off.
