This is what the cupholders for my table look like.

I'm considering adding a compartment underneath it to store phones. It would be shaped like an open box and the phone could slide in and out. I could also include a USB connection at each player's seat for charging them.

Is the charger port for all phones now at the bottoms of the units, or are there some models with this port at the side?

Those look great. How do they attach to the table ?

At least on iPhones, the charge port is on the bottom.

I got the idea from the marathon session at WCBO a few weeks ago; it seems people were looking for sockets to charge their phones towards latter hours of the evening. Zathras finished two tables recently, and he added USB outlets on his tables.

Here is how the cupholders work now.

I cobbled a prototype phone dock station out of scraps.

I could make the box larger for the Samsung Notes and larger phone types. Of course, they would be made from walnut. The phones could be charged as they were being docked, since the charging port is at the bottom of the devices.

Very neat idea - I wish I had any woodworking skills.

Neat idea, but just as neat would simply be adding USB ports to the underside of the cup holders or underlip of the table (like Casinos do). People are more likely to have their phones visible and I could see people propping their phones up between their drinks and the table rail anyway. Adding the ability to charge? Bonus! Also, if you have USB ports, people will just bring their own charging cords. I personally think adding the "station" under the cupholders might be nice, but there are also drawbacks...

Just mount a few of THESE under the table, and allow people to plug their own chargers into them.

I think this could be a nice add, but I wouldn't make it overly complex. A few people might charge their phones, sure. and is it baller to be able to charge AT the table? sure...

However, Every time I consider adding chargers to my table (easy to do for me with a lighted table), I keep coming back to the 12 wall outlets within 4 feet of my table. They work just fine.

I just build them in. When there underneath they tend to use them to push off the table. But that's one way to skin a cat.... table1 (232).jpg
