If a player has less then the big blind how much can they win. I always thought you could only win the same that you had in front of you.

    Scenario 1

    Player 1 = 20000 (SB)
    Player 2 = 20000 (BB)
    Player 3 = 20000
    Player 4 = 1000 (Button)

    Blinds are 1000/2000

Player 3 Folds, Player 4 bets 1000, Player 1 folds, Players 2 Checks.

There is now 4000 in the pot can player 4 win it all? Or only 3000?

    Scenario 2

    Player 1 = 20000 (SB)
    Player 2 = 20000 (BB)
    Player 3 = 20000
    Player 4 = 1000 (Button)

    Player 3 bets 6000, Player 4 calls 1000, Player 1 fold, Player 2 Folds.

Does player 3 need to leave 2000 in (equal to the blinds). Or take 1000 from the big blind since player 4 can't cover it and leave? How much should be in the middle 4000, 5000, 6000?

A player can win from each other player an amount equal to what he put in the pot.

As stated before, one can only win what they can match from each player. In scenario 1, Player 2 can take 1000 back and the pot sits at 3000. In scenario 2, Player 3 would take 5000 back off of his bet, and the 1000 from the big blind that Player 4 cannot cover. The pot sits at 4000.

Only 3000 in the main pot, the other 1000 of the big blind is effectively in a side pot that only player 2 can win.

4000 in the main pot, 1000 in a sidepot that only player 3 can win.
