Been here for a while now, and other than making a custom set, I've been looking at different used chips for the better part of 2 years...

I keep going back to the Paulson Tophat & Cane Pharaoh's Club & Casino chips.

There's no way I can build a set right now, but I think I might start aquiring some chips to slowly build it? I read on here about people slowly building sets of chips, and I think that might be the way to go for me...

Since I've decided on a specific group of chips I don't have to worry about them becoming discontinued, I can buy 20 at a time, or 100 lot, etc...

Is ebay.com the place to keep looking for deals? Or are member to member deals better? Where should I be watching to start building my set?

Thanks!! I'm stoked to have finally made a decision and looking forward to building up some chips!

Might be obvious to most, but is this sort of a "Well DUH, we ALL want that set!" kind of desire? LOL

Gather money, troll EBay and member-to-member sales, keep an eye on PCF as well. Gather more money. Rinse and repeat.

I've had both cash and tournament sets of Paulson Pharaoh's but sold them after getting two custom sets. I don't see them for sale very often so it's hard to pin down a price. Expect to pay $1.50 - $2.00 USD or more per chip.

You might be better off buying them by the rack (100 chips) instead of acquiring them 20 at a time in order to reduce shipping costs.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Paulson Pharaoh's were discontinued at least five years ago and probably won't be produced any time soon since GPI announced they will no longer be making chips for home use. You should be able to build a set over time, although some of the denominations might be difficult to find.

    Good luck!

Sorry, by that I meant they aren't going to change design, the design is done, final, discontinued... so whether I buy $25 chips now, or in 4 years, they will be the same.

I'll keep an eye out and probably start the set once I find some under $2/chip, got the itch to start it :) Such beautiful chips, I need 25c, $1, $5 to create my cash set, eventually some $25's too.

It appears like $25's are the easiest to find, then $1, and haven't seen any 25c yet.

I don't know of any top end chip set that is not finalized before any chips are produced. The set up costs are daunting enough to keep companies from changing their designs without good cause.

A casino will change their chips from time to time for marketing reasons or promotional reasons or rebranding. There is often a "back up" set of chips held in reserve by the casino to deal special circumstances that require that the old chips be retired from use. So you might find vintage chips from a casino with a wide range of styles (or even brands of chips). Few casinos are going to make those types of decisions to save $10,000 in set up costs.

It's not as if I sold my Paulson Pharaoh's to buy a PCA secondary cash set, but I no longer own my Pharaoh's and I do own a nice PCA set. These sets were my most recent sale and my most recent purchase, respectively, but there was about a one-year gap between them.

    You have good taste. :)

I now own a rack of Pharaoh's Club $5's, and two racks of PCA $1's :)
