I'm heading to Vegas, and the cross I have to bear for playing poker while I'm out there with the wife is powerwalking to every casino on the Strip. I'm looking forward to this, given that it's going to be roughly the same temperature in Las Vegas this week as it is on the sunny side of Mercury. I'm seriously considering wearing a lead-based heatshield on my back, like one of the Apollo space capsules re-entering Earth's atmosphere. Why do they call it a "dry heat"? ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHT DEGREES IS HOT, REGARDLESS OF HUMIDITY. I think that's self-evident.

That said, I thought I'd try and make my Vegas Death March at least mildly interesting. So here's what I'm going to do......

It's a simple game. Just give us your funniest poker story here and add the names of 2 Las Vegas strip casinos at the end of the story.

The 5 that make me laugh the hardest as I slowly trudge up Las Vegas Blvd while baking like an Alaskan crab will win a $5 and $1 chip from one of their two casino choices that I will ship to them. Maximum of one entry per person.

Deadline for entries is 11:59pm Monday the 29th. Good luck. I'll reply with the winners on Tuesday morning.

One hot week in July, rhbergman, one of CT's finest, and his lovely wife headed out to Las Vegas for a little R&R. We all know how hot Las Vegas is in the summer, but no worries, it's a dry heat. Even so, rhbergman thought that summer in Las Vegas was akin to be stranded in Death Valley with no water, no food, and no shade. He considered wearing a lead-based heat shield on his back and even went to an Army Surplus Store hoping to find some heat shield tiles left over from a recent space mission but was saddened to learn that the store didn't carry NASA items.

On his second day in LV, rhbergman was shuffling chips at a 2/5 NLHE table in Caesar's poker room when he suddenly remembered that Paulson chips contain lead. ZOMG! He bolted from the table with the three racks of chips that he had just won (w00t!), stopped at the gift shop for supplies, rushed to their room, and fashioned a jacket of $5 Caesars chips trimmed with $25 chips. He even used his $25 and $100 chips to make a coordinating hat. After admiring his handiwork and having two hours to kill before the missus was due back from her power walk, he went back to the poker room, hit up another table full of tourists, and walked away with another three racks of chips that he used to fashion a matching ensemble for his wife.

Needless to say, after spending all day in the hot sun, wifey was thrilled with her new apparel and thanked our hero appropriately. The next day they headed out together to walk the strip, stopping first at the Bellagio to enjoy the conservatory and have a lovely lunch, and then heading out to the MGM Grand to see the lions. She was so pleased that our hero had made their heat-shield outfits (which worked very effectively, by the way), and that he had spent an entire day with her walking through a conservatory, having a fancy lunch, and going with her to see the lions, that she told him he could spend the rest of the week playing poker if he wished. And that he did, but in an homage to his very understanding and appreciative wife, he returned to the Bellagio and the MGM Grand, not to walk through the conservatory or to watch the lions, but to play some serious POKER!!! :)

LMFAO - great story, but it's supposed to be a real story (and we all know that chips belong in a rack, not as an ultraviolet ray deflecting device).

...and the two casinos don't need to be worked into the story - just list 'em at the end and if you win, I'll grab you some chips when I go in to hydrate

Not quite a poker story, but a good Vegas one.

While walking down the Strip a year ago, my wife and I reached the section where the City Center construction was taking place. Now if you've been to the that part of the Strip you'll know that there are men stationed at the street corners, snapping decks of business cards. These business cards are advertising for the local 'ladies of the night' showing a revealing photo, a phone number and the going rate. Now we didn't know that at the time and grabbed a few from the guys handing them out.

I chuckled when I saw what they were but my wife got all excited. She started to collect more of them from the guys at the corner and started to organize them as we walked further down the Strip. We got to the next stop light and while we were waiting to cross she lamented that she had four copies of 'Heather' (for only $79! and would be to your hotel room in 20 minutes!!). Another couple next to us overheard her and the woman there pulled out HER stack of cards and started a quick session of trading. Much discussion of who probably had implants and who was sexier when on while we waited for the light. This happened again at the next three stoplights!

I think we came home with over 300 of those cards. Never called any of them though!

I would love a chip from either the Palazzo or Circus Circus, as those are the two places I wasn't able to hit on my souvenir chip run!
