    Hey Chiptalkers!

Just thought I would announce an upcoming new series of chips! We are in the final stages of design and prototyping on this new series. There's a mystique and fascination about underground poker clubs throughout the world. In New York City of course everything is much grander and always makes the headlines.

I wanted to get some feedback from the forums about the concept and the design. I also wanted to see if there was any interest in a pre-release group buy with a discounted price of course.

Depending on the group buy interest this series should see a release just prior to Halloween 2013. Please feel free to leave feedback. Thank you.

Here's the digital proof for the series:

LOL. Not sure about "In New York City of course everything is much grander and always makes the headlines." I've played in many NYC clubs over the years, and can't really recall one that was "grand." (Even the Mayfair and the Diamond.) And they only make the headlines (barely) when the NYPD comes crashing through the door (been there, done that :stunned:).

But your design looks nice (other than the perhaps unintentional mild racism of making the Harlem chip (1) brown and (2) the cheapest denomination).

You're right -- it should obviously be pink, since Bill Clinton lives there now.

Do you recall the chips used at the Mayfair?

This set reminds me of the pny and not really anything underground. If I had to make a underground theme set I would focus more on illegal casinos

Call it the wrong choice of words. I meant the mystique is on a grander, larger scale not the clubs are grand in the sense of being huge, plush and rich. Some clubs move from location to location and tend to be in a hotel room or a small apartment.

And I can recall the last big bust last year being in an art gallery involving the Russian mob and the investigation reaching as far as Hollywood. Sounds like headlines.

And Harlem is a big place and is predominantly still African-American but it's being largely gentrified. The only reason the chip is brown is because of the image - the brownstone. It's what comes to mind whenever I think of Harlem neighborhoods. And there is no reason for it to be a smaller denomination. It just is. It was one of the last chips I worked on in the series. That's the spot it landed. I could defend the remark about racism but I'll just let it go. If you want to discuss that you can send me a private message.

The Harlem chip is actually my favorite chip. I'm going to enjoy seeing a lot of them on my table.

I actually planned on there being a .05 cent chip as well but I ran out of ideas. If anyone would like to see one or has another idea for another denomination please let me know. I'm willing to add to the lineup.

Also the set is totally customizable. If you want the Wall Street chip to be a .25 cent chip and the Mulberry St chip to be $5k, or you want the Harlem chip to be pink  well just let me know.

I don't but one of our printers used to work in a shop that printed a lot of chips for NY clubs. The beauty of supplying those clubs was the fact that they would get busted often and have to reorder an entirely new set because the police would confiscate their chips. I wonder where all those chips ended up.

I pondered the possibilities of just doing another fictional club chip. That's been done. And I couldn't certainly just do a chip of a current illegal club. This is basically a nod at the tradition of underground poker games and clubs in NYC.

(See here in Portland, OR where I live Poker Rooms are entirely legal as long as there is no house rake and of course no "books" are kept. People play poker in bars and strip clubs without having to hide it. There's little need for the underground rooms when the legal clubs are open all day and night and have a myriad of game and a wide range of buy-in stakes. There's not much mystery to it anymore.)

love the non-traditional colors. i have to lol when i see some of the actual chips used in some underground games in the city. these would be a ginormous step up. best i've ever seen was non-relabeled paulson classics and that was a $25/25 NL game (obv i was not playing). super secure chips for your lowstakes game, guys!
