As posted on the CC&GTCC Message Board by Club President Wayne Thompson:

Finally this afternoon we received the signed contract for our 2009 Convention.

Our 2009 Convention will be held at the South Point Casino on Wednesday June 24 through Saturday June 27. Room rates both weekdays and weekends are $75 ($14 cheaper than last year).

    www.southpointcasino.com

This is a new property (2-3 years) and those of us who have visted the property were very impressed!

Just a few things that make this a great property.
    1) A far superior facility to the Orleans, Tropicana, and Riviera... really top-shelf

    2) Great convention area... with a cash bar right outside. (Could not confirm if it would be open for our show)

    3) Beautiful rooms with 42" plama TV's in every one.

    4) 12 restaurants, including Michael's (known as one of the 2 or 3 best in Las Vegas for years), an Italian restaurant, a Mexican restaurant, and a steak house.

    5) Nice big centrally located bar that will make a wonderful substitute for the Splash Bar

    6) 64-lane bowling alley that's open 24 hours a day (for after Splash Bar activities)

    7) 16-screen movie theatre

 A beautiful pool with a jacuzzi and an outdoor deli (not a big rectangle pool surrounded by tall buildings)

    9) A 600-seat bingo hall

    10) There might even be a rodeo or other equestrian event going on in the equestrian center

    11) We'll have the poker tournament in the hotel (still working on BJ tournament) No reason to leave the hotel for the whole week!

    12) Full spa

    13) 400 seat showroom where they bring in various headliners

    14) Huge casino with sports book

    15) We anticipate that since all of the convention activities are taking place at the South Point and since there is so much else to do there that just about everyone will want to stay at the host hotel this year.

The hotel is located about 4-5 mles south of Mandalay Bay, near the outlet mall. The hotel provides a free shuttle to the strip.

The BOD has worked hard to move the Convention to a hotel everyone will enjoy. We truly think you will be impressed. In all we talked with 5 hotels (Riv, Rio, Bally's, Paris, and South Point). The Riv knew we were looking at other properties but not which ones. We kept dates reserved at the Riv (I'll release them tomorrow) just in case we were unable to come to terms. We made sure we would not be without a venue for the 2009 Convention. That is why we didn't want to disclose anything on a public board.

We honestly never thought getting the contract would take this long. I won't go into the details but we made a lot of changes to the original offer and got some concessions from the hotel. We feel the contract is a good deal for the Club.

Looking back instead of thinking we would get the contract in a few days we should have just said we would post an update weekly until we had a contract. I will take the blame for that. I hope everyone knows the BOD was moving this forward as fast as we could. We never tried to hide anything from the members or hold anything back.

I assure everyone we are as glad to have this put to bed as you are to have the details. Thanks for your patience!
Please feel free to ask any questions.
    Wayne

I for one am very excited about this and look forward to being there! I hope that more CT'ers can be there this time around and we will look to have a CC&GTCC permitted CT gathering!

Exciting news, Jim! South Point sounds like a terrific place to hold the Convention - with just about all the amenities covered! And not a bad room price at all. I was just looking over all of my haul from this past June's convention today, and reading the latest CC&GTCC magazine. It's my most favorite magazine yet! Lots of convention coverage and articles. Pics of several CT'rs. Oh, and I loved the article that you did on POP's OASIS! Good job!

Wow! Seems like a great move thanks to a lot of hard work and some tough negotiating. Props to the directors!

I might even be able to attend next year's convention. :)

Very nice of you Nana, thanks!

I hope that you and ole what's his name will be there again! Maybe we can start working on a CT Gathering promotion.

If there were some sort of CT gathering, that would put me over the top. I haven't been to a convention yet, but this may be the one.

What do you think the odds are that the club would order some extra playable sets of the tournament chips for those of us that are interested? THAT would be awesome!

It does sound like a great location for the '09 convention. Alas, I will be cruising the Mediterranean on the Norwegian Gem then so won't be able to join you CTers there. This will make me 0 for 4 so far in attending. :stunned:

There was a CT get together at this years convention. It was Nana, Ten, Gaming Ore., and umm Me. Three CT heavies and little ol' me. It was great meeting you three. It is not looking good for me and the convention this year, but there is still time to bug the wife enough until she caves.

I am bumping, because although I cannot go I would like for as many of you to experience this that can. 2008's convention was one of the best time's I've had in Vegas, and I got to meet so many people that I've only conversed with online. And South Point looks like a super nice place, I wish I could go. [Vera will be 8.5 months pregnant at the time of the convention, so I'd better stay home this time :)]

Man, that does sound like a lot of fun. Have been itching to go to Vegas for months (never been there), and this might be a good reason. Do I have to be a member of the CC&GTCC to attend this event?

Membership?.... Technically, yes. However, the overall event is open to the public. The entry fee (not yet finalized, but $10 per day in the past) provides a daily, temporary, CC&GTCC membership.

I will also tell you that becoming a CC&GTCC member before hand will still require an entry fee (not yet determined, but $20 for all 3 days in the past), HOWEVER, your $30 annual Regular membership fee will provide you with access to some of the non-public activities, i.e., the Club's Business Meeting, participation in the poker and/or blackjack tournaments and a couple of other Club activities.

I think I might be able to make it down to South Point. I'll be there, and I hope to meet some CTers in person! I just gotta get my CC&GTCC Membership. ( Something I've been planning to do, just have not done it yet)

I so hate missing the CC&GTCC convention this year. Especially after receiving the latest magazine issue. Made me want to go even more. Called Greg to make sure that he couldn't just haul off and go, but no he really can't. Baby due withing two weeks of the convention date. I checked on available flights with frequent flyer mileage, so just may decide to go to Vegas anyway. Need to decide though for sure before the available seats are gone. ????

I'm sure Greg would give you a list of things to look for!

LMK if you will make it, I'll keep an eye out for you in the crowd.

I will be out at the South Point all day Thursday the 25th. Capping the day off by playing in the 7pm CC&GTCC Poker Challenge.

    Who else will be there?
