If you're ever unfortunate enough to find yourself in Ft McMurray you can cheer up a bit as there is a casino up there. And there is a small poker room.
    • It's only open Thursdays thru Saturday. 7PM - 2AM
    • There are only 3 tables so you'll need to call a few hours ahead to actually get a seat when they open up the doors. I was there last month and called the casino at 6PM to get onto the waitlist. I was 2nd on the waitlist and had to wait until 9PM to get a seat.
    • 1/2 NL is the only game available
    • $50 min/ $200 max buy in
    • KEM circle back casino cards are used
    • They use cheap inlayed plastic chips - they're really ugly. I'll have to keep a few the next time I'm there and post some scans.
    • All chip buying is done at the table - this is good and bad. It's good if you end up getting stacked - you can rebuy quickly. It's bad for the same reason - it slows the game down quite abit.

Another good point: you'll be playing with a bunch of riggers who make buckets of money in a short amount of time and have nothing to spend it on except booze drugs and gambling.

I've only been there once but the table I was at was really soft. There was one guy who went through 7-8 buyins in the 3 hours that I was playing - maybe 90 hands or so?? He would 3 barrel with air and try to check down with an actual hand. Another fellow called my pot sized shove on the turn with a gut shot.

Here's a scan of some of the chips - inlayed plastic chips.

Just to add a little. Boomtown, Ft Mac, is owned by the same company that owns the Great Northern Casino in Grande Prairie. I didn't play poker there when I was in G.P. a few weeks ago but it is the same chips, same crowd, same game.

    Dan's 2 cents.
