This is thread is to identify those who may be interested in a Fall 2009 Biggest Loser Competition.

This is a weight loss competition for ChipTalk members. It works much like the Biggest Loser show on TV. For those of you who do not watch: we pick a starting date and weigh ourselves on that date. The object is to lose the largest percentage of body weight possible before some predetermined end date. The winner is the person who loses the largest percentage of their body weight as determined on the last day of the competition.

    Official guidelines:

    1. Buy in is $25.
    2. Start date would be sometime next week (to coincide with the season premiere of The Biggest Loser on 9/15).
    3. End date is TBD. (Likely to coincide with season finale of The Biggest Loser in November or December).
    4. Weight lost = Ending Weight - Starting Weight.
    5. Official calculation = Weight Lost / Starting Weight.
    6. Pictures/videos updates are OPTIONAL, not required. An intial and final picture may be required (but does not necessarily need to be public).
    7. Winner takes all.

    In previous contests:
    CWaters425 lost 43.2 lbs in spring 2008.
JCTC lost 44.5 lbs in fall 2008.

    Who's interested?

Is this the best time for doing this?

During summer I lose about 10 to 15 lbs because I golf, or I am chopping wood, fixing the house, ect.

Soon as football season starts you can't get me off the couch. I am either drinking beer, eating chicken wings and or playing poker.

I think they film these in the summer and play em in the fall.

Right now I am 6'5" at 205 lbs if I lost 15 lbs I would die, by Xmas I will be 220 lbs at least.

Good luck to all but this is my fatten up for winter mode.

Good luck guys. I gave up on this about six months ago. I've just been lifting like mad. Lost 23lbs of fat and gained 26lbs of muscle so far. It's much more fun than "weight loss", that is for sure!

    Best wishes.

Yup, totally agree with you here. In order to survive another harsh winter, I'll have to put on a few of the pounds I lost golfing in summer:wink:

What's the status on this? The show started tonight, I've been working out already and am starting to diet more seriously tomorrow, let's get some kind of wager going!

Yup, yup. I am definitely in. Just saw this thread. Funny though, cause I actually weighed myself in during last night's show and was planning on doing it all on my own. I'm sitting at 239.5 @32% BF. My 40th birthday is 3/10/2010 and I am committed to getting under 200 lbs before then.

Anyone care to up the stakes? Say $100? $250?

Let's make it a nice carrot.

$250 might be a bit much, especially for an over-the-interets-pretty-much-on-the-honor-system type of deal we'd be doing.
Also, I think it's more fun to have more participants, so keeping the buyin lower should get more people in. But I'd make a $75 side-bet with you and anyone else who's willing.

Sorry gang. It has been a crazy week. Let's hammer out who is in and the stakes today and we get rolling this weekend.

    Participants thus far:

    ddollevoet
    Josh
    osumike11379
    Big Mike
    gpc
    Couga
    trutan
    TenPercenter

CWaters425 and Big Kyle seemed to be on the fence. I need to know if you are in or out.

I'm opening the discussion for stakes. We've always done $25 to try to lure in other participants. I am open to raising the stakes, but we'll need to have agreement by all contestants.

My 2 cents. $250 is too high. $50 still seems reasonable to me. I think we'll likely lose contestants at $100. I guess I'd be open to $25-50.

Has anyone been able to identify when the season finale is? I am trying to identify an end date for the contest.

I'm in the same boat. I turn 40 on 4/11/10. I am around 220 and want to be down to 175 lbs by my birthday.

Well, then let's do this thang! Here's to both of us being in great shape at 40!

As to the raising of stakes...... I think that I would prefer that the stakes stay small. While all that have expressed interest are longstanding and trustworthy members, there are too many opportunities for "fudging" and raising the stakes just gives people more incentive to do just that.

I'll also mention that I plan to lose the weight through good old exercise and proper eating. I hope that is the plan for everyone else as well.
