Are there any dealer's choice games that you have banned at your home game? There's one that I hate being called because it doesn't end with that deal, it goes on and on until everybody is out. I can't remember what it's called, but there are always a couple groans when it's called. Are there any games that your game has banned that you would like to play?

Most of the dealer's choice games in our local group (except for the rare kitchen table game nights) have a predetermined list of games for players to choose from. A list may run from 8-10 games to more than 30. We don't play wild-card games, not counting draw games that play with a bug. Nor do we play card games that aren't really poker, like Between the Sheets.

Our hosts can effectively ban specific games by not including those games on the list for that night.

You might be thinking of 3-5-7.

Sohe is banned from my house. I love action more than most people, but there is way to much in that one when you don't have new people coming in like in a casino.

We haven't allowed wild card games in a long time.

    Most groans:

Win 2 of 3 Hold'em. Texas HE, SL. 3 boards. Must win 1.5+ boards to scoop pot. If nobody scoops, next on left redeals all that were still in. Ties = .5 (even if 3+ ways). If more than 1 player wins 1.5, no scoop, keep playing. With our group, it plays a lot like bingo (not the card game). It can generate a large pot, take a long time, and leave most of the group angry and having to shovel in more good money after bad.

Evil. One players favorite. Takes a very long time to deal. Pots can get quite large. Losers may be tilted at the end of the hand. A SL, Hi Low ( game. 2 cards down to everyone. 1 up card offered left of the dealer, may be accepted or passed. After 2 passes, 3rd player (or 1st if only 2 who aren't full) take it. Player to take a card can check or bet (if checks, nobody can bet). Continue until all remaining players have 5 upcards. Nut low = 6432A (non flush).

The few games we do not allow are like the between the sheets games. One player likes stud with a wild card so once every 10 hands we play it. If you can explain the game and the table understands we play it. You do have the choice to sit out.

Pot Limit Razz has been banned from one of my local game.

Funny story, IMO, but only if you know the inside jokes.

Oh, Greg, feel free to remove my signature, doesn't really matter anymore. I tried to edit myself, but apparently I can't.

321 Omaha - game is eye-stabingly slow as everyone tries to figure out what they have, the cards they need to win, cards that will make them lose etc etc etc

I know its an old thread. I don't care lol.

Wild card games are banned at my house. On the rare occasion I can get a group of guys to play limit poker. I ban Hold'em. I don't care to play Hold'em No limit. I definitely don't want to play it with limit betting.

For the "serious" group that I play in we limit the list to current WSOP structures. If the WSOP plays it then its fair game.

For the "less serious" group I play in the only rule is that if you call it you deal it. So if you want to play a jacks or better game for instance you would deal it until it ends. None of this crap calling a game and then 8 other people have to deal it for you.
