Value of Posts compared to chips

OK, I know I'm new here and this may seem a little pretentious. But upon further inspection of the chiptalk post exchange rate, I have come to the conclusion that the admins really don't want anyone trading in their chips for the high end items. Such as the Egyptians, or any of the other sets that are available above the 30,000(!) range. That would be continuous posting for almost, what, 10 years? By then, poker won't even be played with chips, it will be some kinda of hologram device, and the exchange rate will be 200 Trillion in the account to get some. Yes I know there is a weekly CT tournament that the top 3 places get a chip bonus, but even that is small compared to what people are trying to save for. Even our most respected Ten is WAY low on the pole for saving for a set of Egyptians, unless he just went in and changed his stats directly

It is my conclusion that the exchange rate should be higher. I propose somehwere in the rage of 4-6 chips per post. Even at that rate, it will still take awhile to save, but the users/posters here will feel more like they are actually accomplishing something when they post instead of "Wow. One more chip added to the account. Only 29,952 posts left to get that set of chips "

Just my two cents worth. Something that I feel will help improve the actual posting of quality discussion.

Now that's funny!

I know your frustration, but I think upping the chips per post would have the opposite effect of what you intend. I think there would be more and more uselessness to wade through as people just try to pad their total to get some free stuff.

Consider that the top tier items would run you somewhere around $200-500. They ought to be tough to accumulate to. If people were doing it easily within, say a year, I have a feeling the chiptalk store would close it's doors pretty quickly thereafter.

Posting isn't the way to get it done if you're aiming at the high end gear. Write an article, write reviews. You can rack chips up quickly if you're a good writer and in that case, I feel it's a just reward since you're making a big contribution to the community.

Ah, but see there in lies the problem. I can write little stuff like this, and it be pertinent and sometimes even mildly entertaining. Ask me to write a review? Forget it. I get bored after 3 paragraphs. Not to mention that I don't have money to buy products to review. No money, no product, no review. Now if Ten or someone had something they wanted me to look at, send it my way. I'll play around with it, and try to bullshit my way thru a decent review. I believe that there is another way, without sacrificing the quality of posting we have become accustomed to.

The "point per post" is meant to be so insignificant that it can almost be ignored. I created the point system for two reasons, to promote referrals (didn't work too much for that) and to "pay" people to write reviews and articles. That part has worked out very well.

Ahh, I got the attention of the gods. See, I was right! Admins don't really mean for us to cash in on the chips at all.

Come on, that's not true. You seem focused on 30,000+ items, yet admit you are too lazy to write a review.

In what, 2 weeks, you're already over 1/2 way to the 1st item in the store (sample ceramic chip), and that's just from posting.

What do the other sites give you?

An excellent point. I'm surprised we get anything at all....

It's just another feature that differentiates this site from all the rest.

Now now. You take that out of context. Of course I am focused on the higher prize stuff, who isn't? Except for Ten, he gets bonus' and under-table deals from HPC anyway ;-P I didn't say I was lazy, just not good at writing that kind of thing in any fashion. Since I am unable to produce results writing that way, if I attempt I get bored with it. No other sites offers this. Which is why it shouldn't be so near impossible to obtain.

At the risk of being accused of spamming, I belong to another forum that, through the accumulation of points (much like our "chips"), I've received;

a 300 piece poker chip set w/case
a $200 AmEx gift card
a $75 AmEx gift card
a hat
a leather chip case (holds 500 chips, the one reviewed by our own "Uncle Pat" http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1458)
and 300 more chips

Here's a picture of some of the first stuff I got that I posted on that forum to get 250 more points.

I blacked out the source of these gifts on the hat because 1) like I said, don't want to be accused of spamming and 2) if anyone is interested, I would be glad to let them know where it is if they'd use me as a referral, for which of course, I get more points!
