Question about some advertising I've seen..... Discuss Question about some advertising I've seen...., on ChipTalk.net the place to go for your Poker chips and gambling tips. Read it in Site Discussion.
There are advertisiers on this site that advertise the exact chips we yell and scream "foul" about each day. You know the ones I mean - the "Real Clay" chips that are plastic.
I'm not saying it's wrong or that I have any real deep thougts about the subject - I was just reading through some items and saw an ad - it made me stop and think for a moment. People come here to get the 411 on chips - they see an ad stating Real Clay and it's only the same old plastic chips. Just kinda made me stop and ponder.......
I understand your point. It is kinda of a misnomer that people come here for the scoop on what are the best chips to buy, yet see ads for the ones we condemn for being cheap plastic. It might send a mixed message to those new users. But on the other hand I also understand that to keep a site like this running, ads pay the bills. So long as the advertisers understand that when we review chips it will not be tilted one way or another. If the chips they sell get knocked around on here, then that is on the advertiser.
Oh, I definietly understand why they are on here - a site needs money to stay running. It just felt funny to see the ad and check out the chips and see the same plastic crap....
If you mean the blue banner that gets posted be.low the first post... I have no control over it. It uses context from the posts to choose the ad. You'll notice that many times Apache comes up, that's pretty relevant.
If you meant the banners at the bottom... I don't have much to say about it. It's hard "not" to sell dice chips nowadays, since 95% of the public thinks they are the standard clay casino chips.
I would be referring to the Blue Section in the middle - and I figured that's what they were.
I hope you don't think I'm complaining or anything Ten - just thinking out loud. Not like you sucked out on me in a tourney or anything with AJ against my AK.....
Selling Dice chips is fine - I own a set while I await the Pharaoh's - but it's when they call them "Real Clay" chips that I get twisted.
It is kind of hard not to call them clay composite or something like that if all the other merchants are advertising it that way.
People have to take the time to learn about chips. This forum should help. Before I start reading this site, I knew something was not right about the ad but didn't have any more info, now I know better.
For all that, there is a place for the cheap chip. For someone who just needs chips to play with, they are very good deal.
Bear in mind that there is probably more plastic or other synthetic materials in the compression molded chips that people are paying a buck or more for, than there is clay, if there is any clay in them at all. More likely it is a synthetic compound with a density that is similar or greater than clay to give it it's weight.
