Exclamation Classifieds points sales turned off for now, new ads welcome

We turned off the ability to purchase new credits to sell items in the classifieds. We are going to be upgrading the entire site soon, and I've learned this product will not work after that. We are trying to find a viable alternative but there is not much choice in this app category.

Those that have existing credits I suggest you use them now by placing any ads you were planning. We will do our best to ensure that no ads will be cut short, but if that happens we will do our best to make just compensation for usused credits.

Re: Classifieds sales turned off for now

Finally taking the leap to VB4?

You have a few options since vbclassified is dead.

1. Continue to run VB3 (even though it is EOL) they will still do security updates as needed.
2. Jump to VB4 and look at PhotoPost Classifieds - PHP Based Classified Ads Software for Community Websites or microCLASSIFIEDS - vBulletin.org Forum and see if any of those fit the bill.
3. See if any PHP coders would be up to the task of possibly converting vbclassified to work with VB4 (which doesnt look like a very easy task)

I will keep an eye open to see if I come across any others that will integrate into Vbulletin.

microCLASSIFIEDS is too risky, it looks like sporadic support at current, and it's already been handed around to more than one 'owner' developer. I have no trust in that product.

Photopost is my only option, but it's not truly a vb product, and reports have been spotty on how well it integrates. I dont like the idea of managing a whole separate app instead of a vb add-on.

A custom built app is not in the cards. Too much to keep up with and too costly to maintain.

mike, we'll have to figure out how to handle that. if we stand up a new classifieds we'll apply credit somehow. If we don't, we'll have to figure out what else to do.

Do you have some things to sell? You can sell them now.

Completely understand your points above.

Just my opinion but honestly if I were you I would simply remain running on the version you are at this point unless you have a real need to update to VB4.

Like I said security updates will be released as needed for 3.x still, just no bug fixes with the "Maintenance packs" and I highly doubt every 3.x board is going to be moving to 4.x any time soon (look how many 3.x vs 4.x sites there still are) including vbulletin.org which is running an older version than here.

Those bug fixes will be released at least another 1 to 2 years, which in that time hopefully someone will come up with a more integrated classifieds mod for VB4.

Just my 2 cents

we are actually already upgraded on a dev system, it's a go. There are features we really wanted to get into play, such as CMS and mobile suite.
