Chips: 39,028 | | Re: Please give your opinion on - ChipWiki Article Submissions We have hidden forums called "Review Drafting." Most of you have never seen them because only previous Authors get access. Lately, there hasn't been a lot of action in there, so articles aren't getting drafted and published. Also, it's a royal PITA for one mod to manage all the articles and all the administration behind the scenes to give the new authors access.
** The goal is to get more interactive help from all members on new article submissions and reviews. It's a really tough job to expect one mod to manage, and it's not a good shared job because of so many steps to make for getting new Reviewers set up to get into Drafting. With Tripod on break, we have a lot of new and old articles languishing in draft mode... So, my suggestion is to: - Turn the http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/review-drafting/ Drafting forum into a Wiki forum, so that all members can safely make edits to the original draft. At will. If someone messes up, we just roll back.
- Give access to the Review Drafting forums to ALL members. No longer just the pre-approved drafting helpers. (no visitors can see them)
- Develop a procedure for Article authors as well as helpers to earn ChipTalk Store Points to buy poker gear.
When boiled down to those three goals... what do you think?

I want to test the theory of using Wiki technology for our Review Drafting.
We have a "sister" development site, which is a copy of this site. When you visit it, you'll need to log in again. The data is about a month old now, so your password might be different.
I have done two things on the DEV site. 1) Opened up the forum called " Review Drafting " to all members. 2) Turned it into a Wiki forum.
What I'd like everyone to do: - Click Review Drafting which takes you to the DEV site. Log In.
- Pretend like it's the real www.chiptalk.net and that you are looking at articles in Draft Mode.
- Edit away! The first post in each thread is editable by anyone that logs in. Make suggestions, make actual edits, discuss, fix formatting, etc. Add photos, do whatever needs to be done to finish the articles.
- When you feel the article is ready to publish, SAY SO in a reply to the thread in question. When it's ready, I'll publish it on the main site. (this one)
In THIS thread, let's discuss how we should implement it on this site. DO you like the idea of the Wiki? |

It definitely takes a different mind set than many of us are used to , and it is a bit scary to open things up. The History is a built in safeguard for viewing document changes. It would be an interesting experiment to see how things go.
We use the Confluence software (enterprise grade, for pay) at my place of employment, where I am encouraging its use. I would be interested to know the software you are choosing. |

Chips: 5,098 | | | Re: Please give your opinion on - ChipWiki Article Submissions I gave it a go a few minutes ago -- it worked great and I think it's a great idea. I especially like how "editors" can earn chips for their very valuable contributions! I'm a bit scared of the college & other school Englush teechers we have here on CT -- will they be able to spend time in any other forum once we get this rolling?
PS Yes, I spelled those word wrong on purpose. |

I've looked at the dev area but haven't yet modified anything. It looks doable though.

I chose a vbulletin integrated product, to make it easy for the authentication federation (or lack thereof). This way users don't have to maintain two sets of credentials, nor do admins have to manage the "bridge" of the two if we used MediaWiki.
