Something to consider when evaluating the voting.
Also, if the contest is not about the most votes, but instead about the best video, why not just make a poll with all eight videos? |

we realize that and there's more to it than just that info. Also, its pretty easy to do a reverse lookup and see if it goes back to a business or cable modem, etc.

I guess I'm just old school. Wouldn't even dawn on me to go out and try to get my friends to join in on the vote. To my "old school" way of thinking, that would be cheating. If you get a lawyer and go over the rules it probably doesn't explicitly say in perfect detail the exact verbiage to outlaw such action. Then again to people in my age group, you don't need to. It's assumed. This is not the case with many younger people. I mean NO disrespect to the younger people. You are a product of our society and it's understandable.
Having spent a good many years in education I've seen a gigantic step over the past 20 years in the manipulation of any rules, from classroom to school district, to justify behaviors. I've seen just as big of a decline in the acceptance of responsibility when unacceptable behaviors occur. It's a generational thing and I have no doubt in 20 years the 30 & younger crowd will be posting about "how it was when I was younger.." as things will have changed again.
My gut feeling (I have not talked to anyone about this, but by just reading the posts) is that Stephan is more of my "old school" group that wouldn't & didn't even think of such a thing. While Yoyo was just "using the tools & conditions as he saw fit to win." Since it didn't say "I couldn't recruit voters", therefore I can. Again, I totally understand why Yoyo thinks this was cool to do -- and in fact is offended by anyone calling him a cheater. From your point of view Yoyo you are not a cheater and you are right. Personally, it would be cheating from my view and think Stephan should have every right to "clarify" any conditions he sees fit.
It would make sense to me to allow Yoyo's video back in w/the condition that ONLY votes cast by people who were members on or before "X" date should count -- this would be true for ALL participants. Don't punish Yoyo for using the rules as he saw fit. Allow him back in and let things play out. Hopefully he'll understand and stick around this place, enjoy what we have to offer and buy lots of chips! Anyone with that much talent & love for chips is exactly what ChipTalk.net needs. Thanks for allowing me to ramble.
Respectfully,
Shannon |

My take on this issue though isn't that Yoyo recruited his friends to vote as he's suggesting, but rather that those 'friends' might be alternate user accounts for yoyo himself. At least that's the suggestion of the mods that I'm hearing. If that's indeed the case, then my gut feeling is that it's cheating regardless of generational affiliation.

Chips: 31 | | | Re: NY Underground Video Disqualified To be honest, I had thought of having all of my friends join and vote as well. Seeing how there are seven guys sitting around the table in my video and a crew in the credits (all of which would have joined to vote on my video - LPN JAM), I didn't think this site would like a flooding of members who, after the voting, would be inactive on a forum that they really had no interest in other than the voting. The only person who has joined has been my girlfriend; and yes we share an internet connection. She's probably been watching the forum's activity more than I have in anticipation of the outcome.
Maybe it's just me being considerate. I hate to think a simple video contest has turned into such a pain. I hope this doesn't deter Stephan from hosting another one and, as another member had mentioned, it could simply be judged by an outside party like Randy, Paula, and Simon.
Good luck to those who are left, and good wishes to those who are gone.

Chris | Hi all, I am the aforementioned girlfriend, and I'm the one who told Chris about this site when I was looking to see what the links were for his video on YouTube. I thought about joining to vote, but decided not to because I didn't feel that it would be fair since I'm not really that much into poker.
I did end up joining because I wanted to post some comments about the videos. I love the Day in the Life of a Chipper video, and I know that's who we're up against. It's going to be a very tight race! I'm rather excited, even if LPN-JAM doesn't win, it's been a fun experience (mostly).
Now that I've been on this forum, I have looked around a bit, and probably will do more... might give me some good ideas for gifts for a certain someone | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
