I hope you guys saw the 2004 WSOP on ESPNclassic during the last few days. How the hell did Williams make it to the final table again? Seems like every hand he won, he either had a set, 2 pairs, or got lucky on the river.
He looked like a nervous wreak heads up and basically kept betting despite the pot odds and what not. They showed 2 hands between them. One Williams won because Raymer had nothing. And the other he was dominated didn't even know it. When Williams plays tight, he's very tight, and when loose, he's out of his mind. I was watching some Celebrity vs. Pros match on FSN and Williams did the same thing against some woman. She had top pair K and Williams kept betting until he was broke. I think the only things this guy can read accurately are books.
I would've liked to have seen Josh Arieh in a heads up with Raymer. That might have been more interesting. Arieh is agressive but not stupid. Him laying down a King high Flush to John Murphy's deuce Full at the final table was nothing short of amazing!
Is this serious?
It sure is
Agian I dont think anyone is saying he is a "bad" Player just that he mad some very critical mistakes in the head up part. The first time I saw the series I put Williams to win then he just backed off and started calling. Callers never win in the long run cause the chip leading will never have to put a huge stack of chips in to see the next cards. There are a couple of key moments that he could have went all in and Greg would have folded keeping him thinking "what did he have".
I understand that he won just over a mill outside of that tourney but how many players made more that that that year? take the 3.somethin he won from coming second in that game and there are far more players that just outplayed him that year.
I wish he would have taken greg out, I really can't stand that guy when it comes to his game lol.
Ah luck, the one thing champion poker players are made of, you can`t win a tournament with out it,whether it`s a lucky flop or lucky river,at some point luck is the deciding factor.
I don`t know wether i fired five shots or six shots in all the confusion, ask yourself one question "Do you feel lucky----well do you punk!" lol
Yes, I'm not saying he is a bad player. He's a genius outside of poker, so he's obviously got his math down pat and understands the game. But seeing the hands he played, I don't think I've seen him do a legitimate bluff on a single pot from what ESPN showed. Anytime he eliminated someone, he had a set, 2 pairs or just got lucky. Meaning his calls were relatively easy.
And the final hand was just utter joke. He was trying so hard to convey to Raymer that he had a hand. What he should have done was play tight for a bit until he got better cards. The blinds weren't very high at all considering their chip stacks. Simply put, he played like a moron.
It's been said that to win the WSOP, you have to be ruthless and have nerves of steel. I didn't sense that from Williams. He played very tight for most of the tournament and just went bonkers heads up.
