Chips: 159 | | | Phil Laak is my hero! Not only is he a bad ass with a hot chic...He's a bad ass cash game player. Maybe I like him because he plays like me (tons of low cards). Regardless his lay down on high stakes poker against Daniel (instead of kid poker he should be named huge tell of poker because it was his second big tell of the night of which was obvious to everyone at the table) was unbelievable. For those who didn't see it this is the story line. Daniel raises with QJc, Phil calls(should of raised in this game, just to see where he was at with AQ off. Flop comes QJd, 8h. Daniel bets 4K into a $7400 pot. Phil raises 11K making the pot $22,400. Daniel then makes it 35K. Unfortunately for Daniel, before he raised, he did the infamous Johnny Chan impression, he roles his eyes and spits outs " Oh brother, this is so brutal". Then Phil makes fun of his speech by saying "A speech about how brutal everything is, and then a raise". Then Phil folds.
Making a lay down like this is kinda impressive. First off, it's a cash game(a lot is at steak) and you don't want to go broke if someone is on a flush draw and willing to gamble on their draw. Maybe Daniel has had 9,10 , but that's not really in his wheelhouse. The bottom line is Phil folded because Daniel gave his hand away( which he's getting really good at) and Phil realized that even if he had the best hand after the flop he may have been a statistical underdog to his opponent.
Cheers to you Phil, because I would of gotten all my chips in the middle hoping to out draw Daniel with my better hand. |

I don't like him, he talkes way too much and acts like a gambler but he's actually a nit.
(Nothing against that style of play)
I think he's a loud mouth.

I have to admit, I do enjoy watching him (Laak, not my friend) play cards. |

Laak is a great player, but he does play conservatively on HSP. I know he plays with Antonio a lot outside the show, but I don't think he plays much with any of the other players. Combine that with not wanting to lose a hand on TV and you have the way he plays. I think he normally plays with much weaker players day to day.

And as for laying down tptk against a reraise on a coordinated board when you are deep stacked against Negreanu...not that hard to do.
Negreanu is >>>>>>>>>Laak
Tilly was +++ in Bound, ever since, not so much. I did love her hand against Antonius in PAD. |
