PokerStars commercials featuring female pros

What do you make of the recent influx of PokerStars TV commercials featuring female pros?

We've got bungee jumping Vanessa Rousso, jogging Katja Thater and kickboxing Isabella Mercier. I find it interesting. Are we finally seeing the targeting of the female market that has long been addressed as the biggest of the largely untapped market segments?

Either that or trying to get even more men into poker.

Announcer:"Hey guys, do you like girls that look like this?"

BWAHAHAHAAAAAAA!
excellent analysis.
I do think they are "making it OK for ladies" to play poker. I think its great. Poker is a place were men & women can compete against each other on an even playing field.

-FYI: 1 flouresent green bean bag on order

Nah, it's all about the guys. Sure, they'll take more women players but their bread-and-butter is young guys. And what attracts young guys?

This is a classic case of killing two birds (pardon the pun) with one stone. There's no downside to showing females in a poker ad.

Re: PokerStars commercials featuring female pros

I think that having females in the ads accomplishes both goals. Showing that females play poker and showing guys that moderately attractive women can be found across the felt. I am glad that Vanessa Rousso and Isabelle Mercier were used and not Marsha Waggoner and Kathy Liebert but until the women are more attractive then the girls at my climbing gym I am still basing site choice on rakeback and site bonuses. Apologies for the sexist comments, but it is all truth.

Links, you have the post of the month and an early contender for post of the year. The majority of men that get drawn to play due to these commercials are mostly basement trolls. These are the same guys watch late night telephone personals ads and think "She has to be talking to me, who else would be watching TV at this time of night." I guess if one or two guys can get fooled into feeding the sharks then the ads are worth it.

Re: PokerStars commercials featuring female pros

The TV ads are fine. Some of the print ads in mags such as CardPlayer, however, are tedious at best and sometimes downright offensive.
