Watched last week's series and heard several mentions of the Persian Carpet hand (7 9), named in honor of Antonio Esfandiari. Anybody know the origins of the name/hand. I know Antonio has Iranian heritage, but don't get the significance of the 7 9.

I figure somebody on here has to be more knowledgable than me on this, so I'm reaching out for help. Any info would be appreciated.

Antonio said that he was playing cards with his friends one time and they decided to name that hand "The Persian carpet ride" after him. He didn't go into detail, but I'm sure there's a funny story behind it..

I believe he said that his friend gave it to him because he beat him with that hand for a large pot.

The Islamic revolution in Iran took place in 1979. If the 7-9 didn't originate there I'd be surprised.
