Brad Garret @ WSOP

On Tuesday WSOP main event night, Brad Garret was in a decent sized hand. It was on the turn and he was thinking about calling a big bet with a flush draw. The bet didn't put anyone all-in. He called and flipped up his flush draw (I don't remember what the other person had). They decided to check-check the river.

I thought this was bad etiquete on Garret's part and he should of been penalized. But he's famous, watcha gonna do...

Re: Brad Garret @ WSOP

I saw that too, but thought that Garrett flipped by mistake, not purposely. I thought the other guy was just being polite in checking down. Not the case?

Why penalty, he only hurt himself.

I agree, it looked like Garrett flipped his cards by mistake like an amateur player.
The other guy decided to be polite to the TV star.

Re: Brad Garret @ WSOP

Slight threadjack

I saw Brad Garrett's show at The Mirage during SCS and I have to say it was the funniest show I've seen in years. I was up front sitting a few seats away from Johnny Chan and Garrett was "on him" all night long.

end threadjack

BTW - it was an accident IMHO

I think there is a WSOP tournament rule that states that any person showing his cards at all during the hand can get penalized by being sent to the rail for a specified amount of time. My local casino has this rule for its tournaments to prevent collusion between the local players, but the rule doesn't apply to the local cash games.

This rule seems to dictated by whomever is hosting the tournament (e.g. WSOP, WPT, local casino tournaments).
So the rule itself and its enforcement seems to vary from venue to venue.

Daniel Negreanu doesn't like this WSOP rule, and he feels if it's a heads-up situation, any player still in the hand should be able to show any of his cards if the player so chooses before the conclusion of the hand. This would allow the player to play "head games" with the other remaining player.

Re: Brad Garret @ WSOP

I heard of that WSOP rule and the magic word is "can be" not "will be." As there was no harm done to the other players, I feel no penalty was correct.

At one of our local casino room "River Rock" exposing your cards would have your hand declare dead in either tournament or cash game. They put that house rule a couple of years ago.

Re: Brad Garret @ WSOP

i think that if I was playing with Brad Garret I would have wanted to shoot Brad Garret. But that's just me.

Oh, and I think it actually was an acccident. And it actually benefitted the other guy as he most likely would've lost more chips.
