Chance for "Rounders 2"

Anyone think there is a chance we will have "Rounders 2" as Matt Damon said he wouldn't mind doing a sequel. He has expressed that wish to the writers.

Based on the first Rounders, and what has been released since Rounders came out, one would think it is a saturated market. However, what has come out since Rounders, has been complete trash. So, I'd actually welcome it as well. Providing they stuck with the same crew of fact checking, parity checking, etc.

The biggest question would be where does the script go? He goes to Vegas, takes down the WSOP? There would need to be much more of a story than that.

Damon and Norton are both good enough to make Rounders 2 a great film. However, I think a huge part of the movie's success was the wide range of characters (Knish, Gramma, KGB, Petrovsky, Petra, etc.) that Mike was involved with. To replicate the success of the original, new characters are going to have to be created that are as good as these guys were. I think a recycled version of the original would be lousy. Personally I would love to see it. It changed poker and it is just a really good film. With the advancements in poker and increased popularity of poker, the sequel would be much better from a cardplaying point of view.

He goes to Vegas, get suck into a game and loses his roll, then have to win either an entry to the WSOP or the $ to enter the WSOP. What else?

What if they show Mikey as a successful card player several years later. He's making his money, playing in one of the bigger games (not THE big game, but a nice 50/100 game or something. Then Worm shows up broke as usual, running from New York again after Mikey bailed him out in the first movie. Maybe turn him into some strung out loser and Mikey feels bad for him again and tries to help, only to ultimately realize that his friend is a complete lost cause.

Or, he turns into a chip collecting junkie and spends all day posting on CT.

It'd be a short movie, with lot's of pron...

Cut to years later, Mike has done well as a pro, like others stated plays in decent games, is a semi known player, maybe a bracelt or two at the WSOP. Has some cash but not more than a million....worm comes into town, has some mob problems...the mob wants a piece of Mike, they threaten his new hot girlfriend (some gratuitous topless shots thrown in). Mike has to come up with like 2 million and recruits some pals from new york to form a crew. Mike goes on to play in a string of tournies to get the cash for his girl...

In a plot twist, he suddenly becomes Jason Bourne and breaks all the mob guy's necks. Takes the millions and opens a card room in California.

Maybe they show Mike winning the ME at the WSOP and takes like 3million...the mob sees he's got cash. You then see mike playing some big games and losing to some major suckouts and his roll dimishing by no fault of his own, getting in good and losing. Then he must climb back to save the girl and the world....if he could only remember who he was...
