What's up with dice chips (or other similar cheapos)? You see them used in poker magazine ads, TV commercials, etc. For example, the latest Daniel N. ad promoting PokerStars.
Can't they at least use some generic clay chips or equivalents?
You think the likes of PS can't at least come up with some custom PS chips for their own ad?
Even my wife (not a member here) comments when we are watching a movie or a tv commercial where they are using dice chips by saying something like: "Look at those cheap chips they are using, even Nexgens would have looked better! You think they could have spent another $50 to not use the cheapest chips possible."
Director: We need some poker chips for this scene.
Props: I have this killer set of poker chips, they are the official 11.5g casino weight and have pictures of dice on them.
Director: That sounds exactly like what I need, go grab them.
And thus we are stuck with crappy chips in advertising and television.
Am I the only one who thinks that their deliberately using cheep ones for the "omg I use the same chips as Daniel and Joe, I must be a great player, let me put lots of money on pokerstars and lose it all"
To me that would be one reason to use them, the other being that "real" players care less about the chips and more about having lots of them heck the Poker After Dark chips for the entire first season were cheep BCC not even customs.
Having said all the above I do wish they'd use some decent chips in the adds.

I can imagine that this is exactly what happens. My favorite commercial is the one where Chris Moneymaker is sitting by himself at a table in a restaurant, dealing cards and betting with crappy chips. By himself. Did I mention he was by himself, dealing cards, and betting chips?
