I think that as an amateur, You know that you are at a different skill level than the pros, so you form a plan to maximize on what you do know. I think he did that perfectly. After all it is no fluke that he knocked out seven of the eight other players at the final table, some of which were pros that should have been able to play back at him. I also believe that when we all see the hole cards in upcoming broadcasts we will have a better understanding of how well this guy executed his plan. The greatest thing about the WSOP is that every Tom, ****, and Harry can enter. Now given a choice out of most of that bunch who better to be a representative for the WSOP then a social worker with six kids and a wife that works full time to help the family get by. I also agree that the WSOP has become somewhat of a circus but Television dies that to everything it touches. With the exposure poker has gotten this was bound to happen. There was some discussion about new events. One idea expressed was an all bracelet holder event, so maybe some thought is being given to ways of fighting this cheapening of the bracelets. Please remember this is just my two cents worth. Only an opinion, I am in no way saying everyone must agreewith me. Thanks |

On a different note...doesn't God have better things to do than help this dufus win a poker tournament. |

AS such his early aggression paid off tremendously. Once you have that leverage, everyone else was TOAST.
They all got to that final table. (Won't comment on how he got to that table, didn't read much about him during the course of the three days.)
Once there, you gotta close.
He did. big time.
NO ONE ELSE responded.

I guess the point for some of us is that it would be nice to see someone actually play a good game of poker and win the ME. It just seems disheartening that someone that many of us think we could outplay somehow manages to make it through a week of playing against some of the top players in the world and win 8 MILLION DOLLARS.
It just doesn't seem right or fair but that's life. |

How did Alex play after I went to bed? I was rooting for him. I know he went out on a race with AK. After he got off the short stack and no longer had to fold or go all in, he seemed to play well.
Everyone thinks the H.O.R.S.E. champion is the real deal, but what are your opinions on the Player of the Year? I am curious as to why the main event does not count for POY points anymore. |

It just doesn't seem right or fair but that's life. | the positive side of this coin, is that if this wasn't possible then the poker boom would have busted years ago. The reason the Caribbean Stud, Slot Tournaments, and Roullette have never gotten as popular as poker is that there is no illusion of strategy to mask the -EV play of the participants. These players that play poorly and win millions only encourage others to participate under the false belief that without tons of practice and study they too can discover a strategy to make them a winner. In the long run this is nearly impossible, and if he took his winnings to a poker table and played high stakes for the next year it almost certain he would be busto within months.
However the fact that short term variance and the resultant good fortune can happen to total donks is the only reason that the fish keep coming back for more.
the frustrating thing to me is not seeing amateurs win, it is seeing people acting like buffons win. I actually think that turns the casual fan off of the game, and hurts the quality (read: softness) of the games overall. when guys like moneymaker, raymer, and hachem won they actually were well received by the public because of their respective backstory, likability, and coolness. This brough more players into the game and continued the growth of poker.
I'm not sure that Jamie Gold had that effect, and I certainly don't know that the ridonkulous praying by Yang will be well received. |

Alex raised pre-flop by about 1.8 mil, with about 21 mil left in his stack.
Jerry was about to fold, then looked at his cards, and declared all-in.
Alex immediately called.
Jerry shows pocket 8's.
Alex shows AKoffsuit.
Flop contains 8xx, giving Jerry a set of 8's, and totally misses Alex.
Turn is x.
River is K, so Alex only has a pair of K's.
Jerry wins with a set of 8's.
Alex is knocked out of the tournament. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
