Ultimate Bet released a statement Monday morning that Hellmuth had lost control of their promotional car during an event in the Rio parking lot. "It looked as if the brakes failed," a bystander reported to Gambling911. Hellmuth rammed the UltimateBet race car into what appeared to be a concrete barricade. Traumatized UltimateBet officials referred to the object as a "pole". Hellmuth had spent the day testing the 200 mph racecar in the Nevada desert. Upon approaching his hotel, the 11-time WSOP bracelet winner lost control of the vehicle and crashed head-on into a pole.
While the racecar was totaled, witnesses report that Hellmuth was conscious as he left the vehicle unscathed but visibly shaken. According to one onlooker, Hellmuth quipped, “Well, you can’t win every race.”
.....
Glad he's ok so he can keep criticizing players for taking him out, but.....to me it looks like he wanted to plow through some stand up warning sign because he thought that there was nothing inside it. I bet he just got really into it and wanted to run something over. Throughout the video he was driving pretty wild.
Hellmuthian Arrival
Phil Hellmuth was supposed to arrive in an Ultimate Bet racing car. Since he crashed it in the parking lot yesterday afternoon, Hellmuth arrived in a limo wearing a racing uniform and carrying a helmet. Eleven women (each representing one of the eleven bracelets he's won) greeted him and escorted the Poker Brat from the parking lot down the long corridor in the convention center leading up to the Amazon Ballroom. It was a frenzy of media and fans who chased him down the hallway like he was the reincarnation of The Beatles. Hellmuth posed for photos and signed autographs as ESPN's film crew captured his every move. He finally entered the Amazon Ballroom, two hours late, and with his eleven escorts trailing behind him. He eventually took his empty seat. His tablemates joked that he should wear the racing helmet so he didn't have to hide his face with his hands. Phil Hellmuth has finally arrived to play in the WSOP main event. He begins his quest for bracelet #12 and his second overall World Championship.
Looks like th ebrakes worked fine...problem was that he locked them up...not turning with locked brakes...dummy. Had he kept off them, he probably would have missed the light pole base.

He says the steering locked up
Quote:
You may (or may not) have heard that Phil Hellmuth had a little accident yesterday. Phil was driving an UltimateBet-themed race car around the Rio parking lot when he lost control and smashed into a concrete light fixture. After he reached his seat today and the other players asked what happened it sounded like Phil said the steering locked up on him right before the accident.
