Below is a link to the first article I've seen reporting a number and I know it's likely rounded up (or maybe down a bit), but good gracious that's a lot of people! I had a feeling the number of entrants wouldn't decrease drastically from last year, but I never expected 3,000ish more people to show up. Wow.

That is a huge field. Four day 1's!!!!! That is crazy. I can only imagine what donkament the first few days are going to be. I am curious to see the stat on how many of the 12k entrants are sponsored by online sites.

Wow 12,000 people....man that's a lot of hands to sit through and people to outlast. I wonder if Harrington can amke it further this year...liked seeing him the previous years. Also be interesting to see if Raymer can make another good showing as he has the past few years.

Pollack is pretty defensive



"We've been running hard since June 1," said Jeffrey Pollack, commissioner of the World Series of Poker for Harrah's Entertainment. "But the World Series is unique in its ability to capture the world's attention."
Pollack said he would not speculate about whether the main event will approach last year's record 8,773 entrants.
He said the final total "doesn't matter" because of the event's long history and because it is still considered the top poker tournament in the world.
"We've been around for a long time," Pollack said. "We've grown very organically within the poker community."
