the UK Tv show Tricks of the Mind showed mesmerist/mentalist Derren Brown preparing an old age pensioner for a TV poker tournament.Apart from drumming into her the rules and winning hands he only allowed her to play for a couple of hours.Instead he gave her intense training on cold reading.
The tournament was only 7 days after they first met.
Amazingly the old lady came second, seeing off several veteran players and was only beaten by an unlucky turn of the cards.
Certainly surprised me...

I saw that too, and was also impressed.

What was particularly impressive was some of the hands they showed, like she had some junk like Kx offsuit and called an all-in move based on a correct read that the guy was bluffing - sure its not a great move, but the fact that she was making correct reads was the impressive thing.
