tilt: episode one

i'm gonna do one per day. play along?

classic lines:
"a set of deuces is like a mackerel in the moonlight. one second it's all shiny, then next it stinks"
"you gotta get outta the kiddie pool and start making some moves"
"next case" <--- twice in one episode, after felting someone!
"you crap your pants one time, and they never let you forget it"
"8 thousand? i wipe my ass with 8 thousand. 9, if i had chili"
"no string-raises, biznatch"
what's it gonna be kid? you gonna see my skatekey and raise me a hula hoop?"

some questionable stuff
he goes into the bathroom and there's a hooker there. for no apparent reason.
a horrible overdub as "lowball" takes his floormen around in the opening sequence

overall: this is quality stuff as far as poker drama goes. seriously. they never explain basic poker stuff. every time they show a hand you get only a quick view of the board. if you don't get poker, you just won't get it. the play is sometimes silly (the english guy that eddie busts at the boxing ring, et cetera), but it's realistic.

the story is goofy too, but mostly in that their plan to get him back is horrible. they constantly hang out together, all over town, and actually think that by playing together and chatting for awhile, no one will suspect they're partners. puhleaze. outside of that, i think it's quality.

start watching! comment here. if there's no interest (as i fully expect), i'll just make this the master thread and comment on episode 2 tomorrow.

Re: tilt: episode one

Are they rerunning this piece of sh**?? The sad part about Tilt was that it was bad, but not bad enough to be actually funny. I would much rather read your summaries than spend even one minute watching it again!

Re: tilt: episode one

There's nothing on Tuesday nights... I'll watch it now...

I like how Daniel is in the same CASH GAME as TJ Cloutier... no offense to TJ, he's a GREAT tournament player (most WSOP ME FT's - 5) but his ring game skills are not highly regarded, so inturn he isn't known to play very high... Daniel on the other hand, well I don't think I need to explain what stakes he plays...

Otherwise pretty good so far, aside from the fact that they just walk into a TOURNAMENT already in progress (strip club) and not only start playing, but finish 1-2.

I think the reason the hooker is there is quite apparent.
She's there for relief
If we were all high rollers,(like the matador and lowball) we wouldn't give that a second thought would we?
I'll play along now. I imagine Youtube may be a source for some tilt reruns.

Heh. Not one of my shows... I'll probably watch a movie or something... maybe Mean Streets.

Re: tilt: episode one

episode 2:
another "next case" instance.
"when your a** is used to getting a tonguebath, it's kinda hard going back to the charmin."
after "interviewing" a stripper: "i'm still bendable, so you're not hireable"

maybe i wasn't watching as closely as last night, but this episode was considerably weaker, imo. plot movement seemed rather minimal, with backstory elements introduced but nothing all that important happened in moving the big threads.

point about ep 1 that i forgot: the scene between eddie and his mom was A1.
