I heard Kaplan and Benza talking about the prop bets and that some of the players were more interested in the prop bets thatn the game at hand. What are prop bets and what would some examples be of what they were bettindg on? I'm guessing they are like side bets, How much would these guys be betting? Thanks
I think they can be on anything. I was watching the PPT the other week and Helmuth was betting on an 8 coming down after the flop to make his set. He didn't make it, and I think he lost like two grand.
Prop bets and side bets are the same thing. They can be anything your imagination can dream up. What card will come, who will go deeper in a tourney... A good way to make money in a home game is giving someone what appears to be amazing odds when you actually have an advantage. 4-1 when you hold a 5-1 edge. You can find some good ones with google or other poker forums. Just make sure you don't have an image as a math nerd. You won't get much action.
We do prop bets at my game all the time. Flop majority red/black, paired board, winner of hand (must be made prior to deal), artist who's next song is on the juke is dead/alive. As long as it doesn't slow up the game it's a great way for people not involved in the hand to have a little fun and it keeps things loose.
