watched the 2006 WSOP last night- I was sort of shocked at Mike Sexton's demeanor... not what I expected. He comes off sort of goofy as an announcer-- but the man can definately play cards. I had no idea.

He obviously has an advantage when he announces because he sees the hole cards, but he calls the plays a lot of times before they are made. I believe he said that being an announcer has allowed him to adjust his game to play the players.
Mike did put on a great show, I was definitely impressed. But how about kid poker calling the KK in Sexton's hole cards, then paying it off just to see he was right.
Sexton gave him pretty mad props for that call, but outplayed him other than that one time. And, he did get paid off, so he played Daniel like a cheap guitar on that hand also. It's just the call out of the hole cards was excellent, and I'm no Negraneau fan club member even though it's easy to see he's a top flight tournament player.
I was sort of surprised at the way they covered the tourney on tv. I think they probably wanted to include as much of Matusow as they could get away with, and I am sure they were hoping for Matusow vs. Negreanu heads up. I read that Negreanu had pocket aces 4 times heads up, and each time he raised and Sexton folded. I'm not saying that's unlucky or lucky or anything, but I thought they would show that on television. I like Mike Sexton. I think his commentary does not necessarily reflect what he really thinks but is done rather for television purposes. Hopefully the more casual fans will see this and realize he is an excellent top flight player. Also, it was an extremely classy move to donate half his winnings to charity.
I really liked the way Matasow felt like a child being schooled by Sexton when sexton called with 3's. Daniel really had fun with that one. Very entertaining final three in my opinion.
