Chips: 2,456 | | | Pro Poker Tour 3/17 Hey, if you missed the earlier show, Travel Channel will have a repeat of this teaser episode at 11pm EST. The PPT for those out of the loop---$500,000 freeroll, it is invitational only.
This episode features early round coverage and the tv table has Raymer, Amarillo Slim, and Noli Francisco.
I think the show will run about like the WPT; don't expect them to rock the boat on a proven formula.
What did everyone else think of this episode? |

I think I might like it better than the WPT, especially if they continue to show 10-seat tables rather than six like the WPT. And the fact that most, if not all, are pros makes it definitely watchable. I'll just have to pretend the chips are different colors, because the ones they use (even if they are TH&C Paulsons) are nasty.

Chips: 807 | | | Re: Pro Poker Tour 3/17 It was ok. I really like that they show more than the final table. I always enjoy watching early and middle rounds of a tournament. I liked how they kept updating on the bottom when players were busted and they put up alot of notes, kinda like watching a sporting event. I hated the cards they were using, they were too distracting. I like plain colored cards that dont stand out. I also hated the commentary. It seemed like the commentators (including Mark Seif), had no real knowledge of the game. |

I don't know if anyone noticed, but all those cheers & applause you heard were all dubbed in. Dubbed well, but definitely added.

Chips: 2,456 | | | Re: Pro Poker Tour 3/17 My biggest 3 criticisms so far. They kept calling Gregorich 'greg-or-itch'...it's 'gruh-gor-itch'....I mean how can you get a commentary job when you don't understand the basics of phonics or philology?
AKJJ6 board (not in that order)...a player with A3 checked behind another player on the river who held pocket queens
Mark Seif, 'oh no, you won't make it with these players if you play scared like that'
that is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. if you raise on the river only a better hand can call you. there is no reason to raise here unless you know you can't lose and you know they're going to call. otherwise you won't see their hole cards and you lose information. Mark Seif's criticism was insanely idiotic and he won back-to-back bracelets at the WSOP. I don't understand how someone with 2 wins in 2 consecutive events entered can be that unknowledgeable.
3-that stupid guy that was commenting with Mark Seif. he said 'cat fight' when one player said the word euphemism and another said I don't know that word.....it wasn't a fight, it was just playful conversation.
cat fight is what you say when two women get into a brawl at a Waffle House; MEN DO NOT HAVE CAT FIGHTS! that guy sucks.
these two idiots are still less painful for my brain than Sexton/Patten. Sexton is a great player, but his commentary will always be poor. |

But yeah, the announcing is gawd-awful. I never thought I would be wishing for Mike and Vince. These guys sound like WWF announcers half the time. In any case, good concept and like someone said, more like watching a sporting event and also mostly with people I recognize. I'll watch. |

Raymer's incredibly stupid all-in that resulted in an early exit.
Amarillo Slim Preston says to the dealer after a Noli Francisco bet, "tell him I call his goat-smelling fanny."
A little trivia, the English call fanny the front door not the back door, if you follow. |

D- I liked following all of the other tables – that was cool. I definitely liked ten played at the featured table; very cool. A+ I actually caught the show on accident because my TIVO (DirecTV) didn’t catch it. For some reason it was not part of the on screen programming. Anyway, I am glad the Travel Channel and WPT worked out their differences. This could be a huge hit if the production was improved to the WPT or WSOP level. I prefer the semi-live commentary. It’s pretty easy to second guess a pro when you know the outcome. |

Commentary was pretty awful, but I nearly always think that about televised poker. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
