Let's use a little stats and predict how many will enter the main event at the WSOP this year.

Looking at the numbers, predict the number of entries to this year's main event.

My guess: 8000

Ooooo, you're gonna hate 2006.

They plan on 7 days to get through Day #1. The first 4 days will be about 2,000 players each (though they were set up for 2,800 last year so I suppose these could go up), then the winners of these 4 days will face off during 2 additional days. That gets you to one full field on the 7th day to get to the "end" of Day 1. Sorta like March Madness.

Well I personally don't care, because I only watch the finale of the WSOP now. But that's REALLY stupid. I hope they only televise it when it's down to 1,500 or so.

I didn't even look at the website until you posted it. Looks like they have the same estimate as me of 8000(unless they are capping it at that) since they have the plan of four batches of 2000 people.

with 8,000 entries and a payout structure roughly like 2005, we're talking $10M for 1st.

absurd. i'll be much more interested in watching the $50k HORSE event than the main event this year.

i still think 8k is a bit optimistic. they projected 6k last year and only got 5,619.

I hope they increase the buy-in to $100K, get 500 entrants, and make the World Series a World Series.
$10,000 ain't squat any more, especially with sites giving away a seat every 3.8 minutes.

Whoa, this post is so good I am thinking of giving a positive rep point. Maybe I'll let it slide this time.

$10,000 when the WSOP started is equivalent to almost $60,000 now. $10,000 used to mean something. Upping it to $50K would be a great, and even 30K would be a big step in the right direction. Most people get in through satellite, and Harrahs doesn't want to displease the internet crowd, so the bubble payout is a measly $12,500. The whole prize structure is pathetic. I run tournaments better than Matt Savage does. That guy sucks, and hopefully the guy who is replacing him this year is better.
