Chips: 2,456 | | | Best new poker show? GSN vs Fox I was glad to see the Monte Carlo Millions come back. I was confused as to why the chips were so low-end. They looked to be using 11.5 gram composites with a yellow chipco stack on the side.
The other new show---GSN's new High Stakes Poker...it was enjoyable to see a real cash game. I read or saw an interview with Brunson, where it was stated that he played 4K/8k blinds when he played cash. The blinds were $600/1200 for the new GSN show.
If you missed it, here's a spoiler. Ted Forrest flopped a set of deuces against a medical doctor's preflop raise and called an all-in bet, the doc had a set of fives and took $100,000 off Forrest. The pot was $208,000.
There was a couple huge flaws with the episode---terrible editing. If you paid attention, they put the post-flop percentages up in the corner before the flop.
I was like why is Daniel Negraneu a 2% favorite pre-flop with two over cards?
That is terrible. I mean it's television, editors get a $100,000 a year to watch for that stuff. The percentages were frequently wrong and the pot was frequently wrong. A player would bet and another would raise, but the pot dollar amount on screen wouldn't change---why? They adjusted the pot for the raise and all the calls. They might as well have shown the show backwards, because they gave away what was going to happen every hand.
GSN, I believe did this on other poker shows of theirs, too.
They need to fix it, because it was distracting to follow the hands when the onscreen pot tally was adjusted for the future bets.
It was a very poor production. It really bugged me. |

GSN vs Fox no no, that's not the hand....it was 22 vs 55 vs JT....they put the post-flop percentages up before the cards were dealt for the flop....the editor missed it.......you know, like someone bleeding...then you see them get kicked in a B movie....the other thing that got me was that the show was introduced by Gabe Kaplan & another commentator in front of a blue screen.....it was an AWFUL blue screen! it reminded me of Toonces the driving cat on SNL....the blue screen was meant to make it look like the room was a backdrop...but they actually filmed them in front of a blue screen...I didn't understand why they didn't just film them before anyone was in the room and the background was free....oh yeah, the doctor was a gynecologist....it got me that Negraneau bought in for a million and some pros bought in at 100k and 200k....the show was 60mins and some players were only shown playing 1 or 2 pots....I wonder how much footage they had of the game |

GSN vs Fox I could've sworn I heard someone say 'big blind folds and only loses 1200'....maybe you're right....it would've been nice if they mentioned that before the game started...i watched the show on replay...here's that hand again---this how the screen looked----22 is 6%, 55 is 89%, JT is 3% (that's how it looked pre-flop)...then the damndest thing...they changed it to 6%, 90%, 4% post-flop.....it annoyed me that they put those odds up prematurely...but then i was insanely confused that someone readjusted all 3 hands by 1%....hurts my brain... |

I didn't notice the editing mistakes, but Gabe Kaplan is BY FAR the best poker commentator around. He has so much experience working WITHOUT seeing the players cards, and he has played in these games with these players often enough to actually know what he is talking about.
I find it refreshing to hear someone who understands why players at this level actually do what they do.
My only complaint is that the show is on GSN and not a major network like NBC or CBS. |

I couldn't figure out the values of the various chips on the table. I'll have to go back and watch again, but at one point Ted Forrest makes a $4500 bet by throwing out one chip and it doesn't seem that he gets change. And Barry Greenstein makes a $3000 bet with one chip without change. $4500 and $3000 chips -- I don't think so. |

Chips: 127 | | | Re: Best new poker show? GSN vs Fox The white chips were $5k, but beyond that I was also having trouble figuring out the values. They did say at the beginning that the players were using house chips, so if anyone knows the upper denom colors for the nugget we'd know what the values are. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
