Chips: 896 | | | Best Poker Movie Doing a quick search of the archives, lots of Rounders references, but hardly any to the Cincinnati Kid. I'll admit it I'm biased -- Steve McQueen is DA MAN (no offense to Yeltzen), and there's hardly a better finishing line in Holly wood history" "You're good, Kid, but as long as I'm around, you'll always be second best."
But is there really a consensus that Rounders is hands down the best poker movie ever? I included a few other options rather than the generic "other." |

yentl: ???????
cincinatti kid: a pretty darn good movie. but the final scene ruins it for me. it's supposed to be surreal, i s'pose. there's no way i think i can be expected to believe that that hand occured. overall one of the few best.
rounders: i think captures the gambling scene better than any other. and it's hold 'em. well-written and smart (even when it's dumb). the nuts.
not mentioned:
big hand for the little lady: really dumb, but it's about poker, which is good.
high roller: didn't see it |

The Sting (I'm a big Scott Joplin fan, love the movie in general, and it has a great poker game)
Cool Hand Luke --- sometimes "nothin'" is a pretty cool hand
Shade --- incredible extras with the card mechanics

Even with those - Rounders still comes off as the best IMO. Cinci was good, but I thought that a lot of the poker scenes seemed "off". People complained at length about Shade's non-compliance to the "rules" of poker. Kid seemed to have just as many. Heck - even "Tilt" did not allow string betting "Oh yea - I reraise" (you have to include the image of the 9mm being pulled in response to the sting bet).
Even during the final game (in Kid), the dealer announces no string betting. Yet it happens all the time at the final table. Just seemed wrong. |
