Dice, Dice Everywhere!

[rant]
I've just started watching the "Tilt" TV series on DVD (a gift, I wouldn't have bought it myself), and noticed that they used dice chips all over the DVD menus. And did you notice some of the "high-stakes" backroom/private games in the show? $3000 table, $30 chipset, lol. Thousands of dollars at stake with no chip security. At least they didn't edit the slug-chip sound out--you can clearly hear that familiar, steel-washer clink as Clark rakes in the pot.

Anyway, this reminded me of another pet peeve: have you noticed how prevalent the almighty dice chip (or equivalent Chinese-cheapo-plastic-slug chip) is in today's media? Almost every advertisement/commercial that I see with a poker theme uses them--no wonder people who never have been to a casino (or even ones who have, but aren't chip-weirdos) think they are the de facto standard for poker chips.

And I still see 5-card draw being depicted! C'mon, you clueless advertising folks--I know that fan of five cards (and it always has to be a royal or four aces, right?) sure looks cool, but I think they stopped spreading that game more than a decade ago.
[/rant]

Oh, some of us old relics still play it... :snickers:
I agree with you about the dice chips though.

I like to clear paradise bonuses at 5 card draw. It's a nice change from the norm and there are many who don't play very well.

I love 5 card draw. I drew two cards to make my very first ever royal playing 5 card draw. We still play it.

Dice chips seem to pop up in a large number of ads in poker related magazines as well.... and from companies who you'd think would know better.

If you didn't pick better chips to use in your ads because they were better chips, at least pick better chips so that you're not using the same horrid dice chips that everyone else is using in their ads? If I was paying good money to advertise something in one of those mags I'd make darn sure I knew what type of chips were being used.

I was a child of 5 card draw...my uncles taught me in in's of it back when i was a young young lad. It's sad how most people dont even know the game today, I had to teach everyone how to play when I called 5 card draw JOB at our dealers choice game.
